Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 The A's continue to spend some money. Late tonight, we learned that our old friend Brent Rooker has agreed to a 5-year, $60 million extension. It essentially buys out his three arbitration seasons and two years of free agency. There is also a vesting option for a sixth season at $22 million. The A's will play in Sacramento the next three years before moving to Las Vegas. Read more here. On a personal level, I couldn't be more excited. Such a great dude, hard worker, studies the game, studies hitting, knows himself... Cory Engelhardt 1

If Rooker plays anywhere near his last season, I'd be surprised if the A's or whatever team has him, doesn't pick up the option and that's a total of $82MM. 2025 a30 - $4MM ($5.1MM est Arb1) 2026 a31 - $8MM ($8.0MM est Arb2) 2027 a32 - $14MM ($13.0MM est Arb 3) 2028 a33 - $15MM 2029 a34 - $19MM 2030 a35 - $22MM Club Option (Vests with various MVP and plate appearances)
tony&rodney Verified Member Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 We sure have to be impressed with how dedicated and hard working Brent Rooker has been in his pursuit of a baseball career. This is especially noteworthy in his ability to handle repeated failure and the lack of belief from separate organizations. The rebound to his current standing is laudable. I'm impressed.
ashbury Verified Member Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 Seems like a team-friendly deal that gives the player the guarantee he wants - win/win. Factoring into that is full-time DHs just don't get paid the same (for similar offensive production) as a position player, which is what made Nelson Cruz so affordable to the Twins for instance. Makes this deal a little less team-friendly than at first glance. Simply a good, fair deal.
