Don't disagree at all, but I don't think that's a reason to do anything with Gordon until you have to. I'm just talking about tendering Gordon. Some people are suggesting he's an easy non-tender because of Castro. I don't agree with that equation. I don't think Castro is a reason not to tender Gordon. Having a better player than Gordon who needs the spot would be a reason. Gordon not being worth his projected salary would be a reason. Castro alone isn't a reason. Signing Gordon again for 1 mil makes sense unless you have an actual replacement for him on the 40-man. You can carry both Gordon and Castro on the 40-man until you need to make a decision. That isn't anytime soon, if you ask me.

Ha. My bad, I missed when coming back to this thread that it was about whom to simply cut or not offer a contract.

FalVine may know differently, but I persist in believing Gordon has some tiny positive trade value, maybe in combination with another asset if aiming for anything significant in return.  So yes, give him a contract, but I'd still be looking to move him.

Alcala and Gordon are a couple of those on-the-bubble players, guys you keep in case you need a roster spot for a free agent signing. You aren't out much going to arbiration with either of them.

Plus, if you bring them to spring training, their value may increase. Or, they could be part of a package trade easily.

I realize that Nick Gordon seems redundant in the wake of Castro taking much of the same role, and performing well, but I still feel like the Twins haven't really given Gordon the playing time or proper opportunity that he needs. He's gone from infielder to outfielder to so-called super-sub but has never really had a defined role. I think his best years are still ahead of him and I'd love to stick in the outfield, anywhere out there, and let him thrive. Or not. But give the guy a chance.

Well, I don't see Stevenson and Gordon as comparable. Stevenson has enough speed to be a threat on the bases and is a plus defender in left and center. Gordon might be a good hitter against right handed pitching and is okay in left and center and can play in the infield. What people seem to think is that Gordon is really fast. His sprint speed is on a par with Alex Kirilloff.

Speed is nice - hitting a pitched ball, arguably most difficult thing to do in sports. Gordon certainly isn’t slow. “He’s OK in left & center & can play IF”.

.272 BA in ‘22 with 28 doubles & 9 HR………110 games…….64 in CF. If he can show this promise again in Spring he is trade bait & a long shot for Twins 26 man (no options left). If he’s healthy Gordon is chosen above Stevenson every day.

Stevenson will be DFA’d - at AAA at age 29 through August. Speed (Stevenson) was added with roster expansion & injured players. Stuck in playoffs because Buxton was unable to be on roster. Stevenson has no chance of being on Winter 40 man - Gordon has about a 30% chance.
