Doctor Wu Verified Member Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 This one could hurt for a long long time: From yesterday: Encarnacion-Strand finished the game 3-for-4 with a walk, raising his batting average for the Bats to .352 and his OPS to 1.132. And, yeah, there was that grand slam too.
TwinsDr2021 Verified Member Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 He is in the minors correct? Can we worry about his numbers when he gets to the majors? I could care less about his minor league numbers (Other than they are good and he might be good in the majors)
chpettit19 Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 We had a couple similar threads last month for Brent Rooker. Those didn't age well. He's certainly mashing the ball right now, but I agree with @TwinsDr2021, let's see him do actual damage in the majors before we start freaking out. He also has 39 Ks in 34 AAA games. There's some holes for pitchers to find there.
2wins87 Verified Member Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 I agree it hurts. I don't think we need to wait for major league action to say he'll probably be at least decent in the majors. I'll still take Kirilloff at 1B long term though, so you can regret the return value and maybe not holding on longer but he may have been the kind of asset they were going to have to trade at some point anyway.
FlyingFinn Verified Member Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 If Buxton is in the DH role, Encarnocian-Strand has no place to fit on the Twins. People think that Miranda isn't very good on defense. CES has always been much worse than Miranda in the minors on D. I do think he will hit in the majors but a player should hit really well if they are a full-time DH.
goulik Verified Member Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 To trade for good players you have to trade good prospects. That’s the cost of business. Unfortunately this one hurts not because of who we lost but because who we received ended up injured and we didn’t get the value back. I won’t moan, groan or regret this trade. It was the right Move at the time. Just like I have never complained about cutting big Papi. He wasn’t performing and they decided to move on. It’s possible he wouldn’t have ever become what he became without being cut. Same thing for Encarnacion-Strand. If he turns out great or ends up an MLB bust, that doesn’t change who he was at the time of the trade.
