Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Designated pinch runner, amongst others. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/36226372/mlb-eyes-more-rule-changes-experiment-atlantic-league
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I don't really see any of the rules described in the article as solving a particular problem that I worry about. For instance a short outing by your starting pitcher already puts pressure on your bullpen; now under this rule it also puts pressure on your short bench. Your team's already probably behind, since it was a, you know, short start, so that's plenty of pressure in the first place. What's the point? Just to keep the Chris Archers of the world out of baseball?
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I can't believe they are even considering this. Designated Pinch Runner. The player that gets run for is still in the game, and the pinch runner can run again. It really is going Little League. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/04/mlb-to-experiment-with-designated-pinch-runner-in-2023-atlantic-league-season.html

ashbury Verified Member Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 This isn't even a rule I need to see tried out before deciding. Thumbs down, and will take a ton of evidence to the contrary to change my view. Nobody so far is even saying what "evidence" there this, that something needs fixing in this regard. What next, Ghost Runners on base ahead of your speedy Designated Runner, and he can drive them all in with his legs?
