The club is still not going to have much speed, at least to start the season. While they didn't steal many bases last year, I really don't think they'll steal that many this year. Stolen bases were only a small portion of poor base running. If Molitor can help the club make fewer needless outs on the bases and also take extra bases when they have the opportunity, he will have really helped the club.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Despite being replaced as manager, the FO has great respect for Molitor, and vice versa. That's why he's still been a coach in the system. And just in case someone hadn't been paying attention, the Twins have been drafting more speed and have been more aggressive in the milb system in regard to base running and stolen bases. Reportedly, Rocco and Molitor have great respect for one another. And the Twins have been a very poor base running team under Rocco. Which begs the question, why wasn't he in ST before now? I can only assume everyone was still infatuated with the Bomba Squad of 2019 and 2020. Better late than never, I guess. But the Twins seem to be tailoring the team, without ignoring power, more towards situational hitting and better base running. Better late than never.
