Brandon Nimmo just signed a $162 MM/8yr contract. That's more than Buxton's deal (almost more than he can earn with incentives). Good deal for the Mets or no???

These seems like a terrible contract for the Mets. 20 million and 8 years for a 30 year old? How do his stats get him to a WAR of 5? Zero all star games and never a vote for MVP. I don't get it.

Just seems like some teams are going to have a lot of dead money on their books for the last 4 or 5 years of these long contracts. Age catches up to some of these guys, some already were injury prone, and some will never ascend to the projections that people have them going to. Guess teams like the Mets can afford this dead money (and I liked Nimmo, but had him on a 4 year deal).

Next year there will be free agents and the year after that there will probably be free agents. But for the teams that have put out these 8+ year 200+mil contracts, how many of them will still be bidding. I'm only guessing but not all will win the world series next year. I'd like to see the Twins with a $175-225 mil annual payroll, but even more I'd like to see the team they'd put on the field to be worth that. I think this week alone we've seen a half dozen players sign for more than that.

Nimmo is constantly missing time.  He hasn't played THAT much more often than Byron over the past 5 years.  He's a great asset when he's on the field, but man.......more than I thought he would get in both years and AAV.
