Serious question. Pull KC in the 9th and protect his arm, or leave him in to go for the glory?

Leave him in and give him lots of latitude.

The ball hit Arcia in the glove, a foot off the ground. Of COURSE it's ruled a hit. Good lord.

I kinda wish he would have caught that.

Because he didn't catch it and because he dropped that ball in game one. Seth is gonna have to defend him defensively in a thread coming soon from someone.

So far, parmelee looks like a better OF than Arcia
pfft. I've been advised on this very site the Twins should send Hicks to AAA and play Arcia in CF.

The kind of play he probably was able to laugh off in the minors. I hope he gets a serious talk, plus then some constructive criticism on his technique, and then lots of drills to reinforce it. "You went 1-for-3 at bat. That's not going to cut it, when you do that in the field. I'm not going to let you do that to one of my pitchers. Period."

Make that 1-for-4. I forgot he still was coming up to bat.

Twins would be losing by 5 today if that had happened.

He'll get better reads on the ball there. :)

Fien's in. Shows what I know. The 100 pitch limit reigns absolute.

I can live with that. Protecting the arm is the safe strategy, and keeping him in might have ended badly.

I have no problem with KC going 8 shutout innings, and then letting the BP finish the game. It's a long season.

This is the number one thing that bothers me about baseball right now. For a game that loves and cherishes its statistics like no other game they're a joke.

Fly ball is dropped- base hit. Ground ball to third, thrown away, batter would have been out by twelve feet. Base hit.

It's like Adrian Peterson getting stopped at the line of scrimmage but being awarded a twelve yard gain.

It's ridiculous.

97 pitches... The decision had to be pitch count.

I think it was 102 pitches.

I've had some conversations with one of the official scorers. It's good you pose this as a problem with the game as a whole; this is the standard universally in MLB, and is not a problem with the Twins per se.

What did he say? He couldn't honestly believe that these hits are legit, could he?

Great win by the Twins, and thanks to all who posted for making it even better.

I have just one question: "Who are you, and what have you done with Kevin Corriea?"

Nice job by Fien. I would have liked to give KC his chance at the shutout, but if he took as many pitches to do it as Fien did then he'd have been up to 120, and if the braintrust wasn't willing to go that far when the shutout is still intact then they had to do what they did. I can still disagree, but I have no skin in the game, and it would indeed be ridiculous if he had some bad games afterward and this long game was blamed.

Ok now that this whole distraction of a game is outa the way, whats the update on the evacuated church SWAT team sad ex boyfriend stand off in sunny Grand Forks?

At a certain level I'm sure he agrees with you; in his first year or two he got a lot of flak for calling plays like this errors. The scorers are directed to give a lot of weight to the phrase "ordinary effort" in the rulebook when it comes to charging errors. It does make official fielding statistics close to useless for judging a player's defensive value.

Me? I am ashburyjohn, and I have assigned him a nifty game-avatar. Enjoy the game-winning avatar, in the meantime.

And, best of luck to all in the Grand Forks situation.

Edit: Things resolved peacefully in Grand Forks. From the article earlier cited: "A Grand Forks man is in custody after an hours-long standoff Sunday near the Grand Cities Mall...."

Couldn't watch today but wow. Here I was fearing that the KC most of us were expecting would make his debut today.

That's 11 wins. We didn't get our 11th win until game 37 on May 16th last year.

Hope Mauer starts hitting again, we'll need him to on this road trip.

I can't wait until the day that pitchers are not allowed to throw more than 30 pitches in a game.

Colorado was trying something similiar last year. I also think that day will come. Not far off.

Apprehended... Police still combing over the property... Yellow tape gone... Gawkers gone... Traffic back to normal.
