Game Thread Twins @ Royals 1910 cdt 4/20/2022 ad

This the Ruddigore game thread intro. Everyone is encouraged to be melodtramatic about everything that happens. The slightest misplay send you into horrendous depression, or make routine plays lift you into exuberant over confidence. Or if you'd like to emphasize the mellow part of melodrama... That's good too.

 

For those not familiar with it, Ruddigore (the Witches Curse) is Gilbert and Sullivan's parody of melodrama. If you have nothing better to do in the 4 hours before the game starts, go and watch a youtube version of it. It has a bad baronet, a haunting picture galory, and the epitomy of patter songs with the final line "this particularly rapid unintelligible patter isn't generally heard, and if it is, it doesn't matter".

 

Ruddigore has Rose Maybud as a main character that makes me think of Citizen Kane, with "Rosebud" as his dying word, and the inspiration for Citizen Kane was William Randolph Hurst who somehow was involved with yellow journalism? I'm not entirely sure why that seemed relevant to a game thread, but happy 20th of April, everyone!

 

Hopefully the questions involved with that train of thought as it recedes in the distance will have been an entertaining distraction from all the questions on the field. What were those questions? I haven't been paying close enough attention to recall... Who is this Paddock, and was he worth a Rooker? Were Urshela and Sanchez worth losing Donaldson or dealing with the Yankees? When do we get to see Buxton again?

Word is Buxton wanted to have the Ruddigore overture as his walk-up music, but they could not get permission from the Gilbert and Sullivan estates.  I guess they were big White Sox fans.

A few lingering showers gives us a low chance of a late start, but even if they do call for a late start the game will play without issue, so don't worry if they make that announcement..  (Per MLB weather.com)

I don't want Buxton back tomorrow.  From the moment he left with a knee injury, it never made any sense to not put him on the IL.  It's a long season, and I'd rather Buxton miss 3-5 more games in April then come back not fully recovered, and injure himself again.

It's a shocking sign of incompetence to me that Buxton wasn't immediately sent to the IL so we could play with a full roster.  I would be beyond surprised if Buxton plays in any of the next 5 games, so we essentially played shorthanded for a week+ for no reason.

In other MLB news, Toronto sends Jose Berrios and his 11.81 ERA to the hill in Boston tonight.  Glad the Twins got rid of that bum when the getting out was good.

Well, I was assuming that when they said he'd be ready in 7 days, he would be... but knowing how our front office works, you're probably right.
