Brian Kenny Loses His **** On Hawk Harrelson

As if any confirmation is needed to confirm that this jackass is nationally despised.

Favorite comment: "The White Sox tried putting an old cranky "baseball guy" in the general manager spot in 1986, just like Hawk Harrelson would have wanted. It didn't work - Hawk Harrelson was a ****ing awful GM, and is a ****ing awful announcer."

Hawk sucks but Kenney's arguments weren't all that sound either. The Rays have done a great job with sabermetrics but drafting at the top of the draft for a decade sure helped. Red Sox had massive payroll (and roid) advantages. He ignored the success of teams (like the Twins and Giants) who tend to be considered anti-sabermetric.

At this point, I'm sorta tired of the arguments. No team ignores advanced stats and no team doesn't think scouting isn't important. Both sides have very annoying personalities arguing for them who often use straw men or take other peoples comments out of context to make a point.

Some SABR-metric stats are overrated, while some have real value.

I think WAR is an extremely overrated stat as it somehow had Zobrist as the second most valuable player in 2011 and this was when Bautista, Kemp, Ellsbury, etc put up ridiculous seasons. That right there shows how flawed of a stat it is.

Not sure if OPS, WHIP, and RC are considered SABRmetrics but I think those are valuable stats.

Both Ryan and Gardenhire have made comments since the end of last season that make it clear they don't respect Sabrmetrics much and only begrudgingly use them. They have both taken opportunites to belittle the lone advanced metric guy in the Twins front office. Hawk is not the only person who feels this way unfortunately.

He's an idiot, but the worst thing he said was that teams should stop using Sabrmetrics and go back to finding guys who want to win. Dumbest statement of the week. So what, guys who Bill James likes don't want to win?

Edit: Did anyone see the poll results while Kenny was ranting? The fans watching thought Sabrmetrics were overrated and the only people watching the MLB Network are true baseball fans. I just hope people were voting that way because they don't like Kenny.

I guess I must have missed the sound bite or quote where the employee in question was being belittled by management. Can you direct me to that?

Minnesota Twins: Batting 2nd is ... um ... er ... Brian Dozier ... right? - TwinCities.com

On how he'll set the batting order:

"Once we start, I'll make that final decision," Gardenhire says. "I'll sit

down with my staff and our stat guy and see what that computer spits out, and

then we'll go from there. If it's coughing, then I'll do it my way."

And before that he called Sabrmetrics, Cybermetrics which Beradino, the author says is what Gardy always calls it.

This was less than a week before opening day. The "stat guy" is Jack Goin. I find it likely that Goin or someone else was already telling Gardy that Mauer batting 2nd would be best for the team and he was feeling the pressure to do so and did not like it.

I can't find an unarchived link for the article about Terry Ryan and Goin from last winter, but Ryan basically said the same thing. He said they had a singular Sabrmetric guy and his trusty intern. He basically said if he likes what they tell him he'll agree to it, if he doesn't like what they have to say he'll do it his way.
