Chief_Roberts Provisional Member Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 What are some of your favorites? Buck "Sherwalter" (Buck Showalter) Brian "Mathis" (Brian Matusz)
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Episode is my favorite. As in: "We have to do this *episode* all over again."
70charger Verified Member Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Ben Zobrist always comes out "Zobrith."
Boom Boom Verified Member Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 He's been out of MLB for a while I think, but Bert always used to say "Ben Broushard" instead of "Ben Broussard".
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Sheecago drives me nuts. And I don't ever have to hear him say birthday again.
Ben B Verified Member Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I'd be happy if he would just stop reading the media guide word-for-word on every player.
luke829 Verified Member Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Mixing Dutch with upper Midwest Scandinavian makes for some interesting pronunciations.
Chief_Roberts Provisional Member Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Ben Zobrist always comes out "Zobrith." Ahh thank you for this, I knew he had a gem WRT Zobrist but I couldn't remember how he said it.
Chief_Roberts Provisional Member Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 Has everyone been enjoying Bert sniffing into the microphone every 30 seconds or so these last few games in the cold weather? Not irritating at all.
Chief_Roberts Provisional Member Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Some recent gems from Blert. R.J. Davis (Rajai Davis) Annabelle Sanchez (Anibal Sanchez) Kenley Jensen (Kenley Jansen)
iTwins Verified Member Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 While not technically a mispronunciation - I always get a chuckle when he calls Drew Butera "Sal Butera".
Ben B Verified Member Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I don't even catch every televised game, but I've heard these gems so far this year: Sam FulsWill Smith (when talking about Wil Myers)Desmond JenkinsChris Corbello Bert has never been good, but he's just on autopilot now.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Pretty sure I've heard "Zobirth" as alternative to "Zobrith". Gotta love that Dick doesn't bother to try to correct him, probably not out of professional courtesy, but rather the realization looooong ago that it's an utterly lost cause...
Sarah Verified Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I remember Scott Kazmir always sounded like he was talking about a sweater as in "Scott Cashmere."
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I remember Scott Kazmir always sounded like he was talking about a sweater as in "Scott Cashmere." Every. Single. Time. At least he's finally figured out Colabello. I don't how much more "Callabella" I could take.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 "Mastroni" (but Dick's at fault with this one too.)"More-NO"
twinsfaninsaudi Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 He's always said fourt, fift, and sixt before the word inning (which he pronounces 'enning') instead of fourth, fifth, and sixth. Missing the "th" there makes it a little interesting that he says Zobrith. Another interesting thing about Bert is he rarely uses possessive nouns. He always says "You see the strength of Justin Morneau" instead of "Morneau's strength" or "the speed of..." Many languages don't have possessive nouns, like Spanish, and I can be common or speakers of those languages to not use possessives when they speak English as a second language. I don't know about Dutch, but perhaps his parents spoke this way while he was growing up.
Chief_Roberts Provisional Member Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Had several Buck Sherwalter references this weekend and also a Rickey Nolesco.
chuchadoro Provisional Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 His pronunciation of the "F word" is spot on, though.
sorney Verified Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Listen to Dick Bremer pronounce *Matt Weiters*.....sounds like Man Wieners.
