shortround81 Verified Member Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 While watching the last game of the World Series last night, the boyfriend and I got into a discussion/disagreement about the ugliest championship trophy in professional sports. I think it's the World Series trophy. I think it's too gaudy and weirdly shaped. He thinks it's the NBA trophy because it makes no sense. Both of us liked the Stanley Cup because of the history of adding the winning team each year. And the Lombardi Trophy has such a clean and classic look. Thoughts?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I never thought too hard about the four main professional sports, but I always thought the America's Cup trophy for sailing looked like they swiped it off of some fancy grandma's tea set.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Hmmm, now I'm getting Hookah Pipe vibes from it too.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I tend to agree. I like the Stanley Cup the most. The rest of them are just kinda "meh". I see the NBA and NFL trophies as being basically the same thing. Nothing too exciting about that. I don't mind the MLB trophy so much given the historic nature of the "pennant". It's meaningful in that way, but it's kinda weird at the same time.

Unless a Robin Williams genie shows up, this ain't legit. (We did actually discuss other global trophies)

The boyfriend tried to point out the pennant element of the trophy, but my argument is that not every team from that year won a pennant, so why do they have a flag on the trophy?

True, but only one gets them in gold at the end of the year!
