It was the best of seasons, it was the worst of seasons…

Okay, maybe 2021 wasn’t the best of seasons, but it’s over.

That’s good.

At least for those of us who have suffered through a summer of buffoonery baseball after being promised a team supposedly built for contention. Simply put, our glass of disappointment has overflowed across the table, down to the floor and right out the patio door. Copious amounts of alcohol have been consumed, rough language normally hidden from use has been brought forth and multiplied, electronic devices have been cursed, turned down and/or cast aside and the Great Outdoors has been rediscovered.

But our baseball pain stops now. Next season… well, can’t be any worse, can it?

But here’s a piece of advice from Bob Seger that might help.

Today's Pitching Duelists

Charlie Barnes  0-3  5.86 ERA  17 K

Jackson Kowar  0-5  11.28 ERA  23K

I'd hang around to post this after lineups are announced but my internet connection has been fading in and out all weekend., sort of like my interest in the Twins this year. Kind of fitting, huh.

That's quite the pitching matchup, fitting this game is on a Sunday; 21-17?

You're choice of metaphor is ironic. It's Portland Marathon day and our street is blocked at both ends of our block for six hours today. We had to park the car three blocks away last night to get downtown to hear Mahler this afternoon.

Did we win yet?

Oh wait... hour change goes the other direction cdt->edt...

And isn't alto a type of saxophone? Sounded like the saxophonist's* name...

Mr. Seger is playing from memory...

Some reason i always thought it would be played from written music. And i would be disappointed if the publisher didn't put the page turns in the right places.

*oph as in sophomore. An artisanal pronunciation of sorts. (obviously, same goes for those who play the wrap around marching tuba)

I will not miss this season. Looking forward to the pitching staff overhaul this winter.

I almost think it will be a slap in the face if they decide to spend a lot of money this winter. TBH the strategy they’ve used last two years (cheap, prove it deals) should be used this year while they wait for some of the younger guys to be ready in 2023 and 2024.

If Jim Pohlad and the FO are true to their word we’re not punting 2022. The only way to get out of this mess is by spending money or savvy trades.

My retool strategy is going big in the SS market, resign Pineda, and make a trade for another starter - either by trading Arraez or Kepler. Wouldn’t surprise me if Donaldson is moved in a salary dump to afford more pitching.

Domes in Seattle and Toronto, but what if it rains all day in Washington and New York? Kind of messes up the scheduling.

My first thought at this point is, "Where was this team in April and May?" My second thought is, "I think this poor guy on the mound is overmatched."

I feel differently. If they feel strongly about a starter - like they apparently did Wheeler - stop coming in second place in the bidding and pay the man.

They’ll need to backfill at least 1-2 rotation spots in 2022, there’s no justification to do it for three and expect to succeed.

Wouldn't it be more of a slap in the face to go out of your way to call this a "reset," not a rebuild, and then sign a bunch of fliers to fill out an already shaky pitching staff for a season where you've said the expectation is to compete?

A fond farewell is in order to the Cleveland Indians today.

I assume the fond part is optional, but thanks for the reminder!

I had a friend advocating they change their name to a Gulliver's Travel reference, and be the Endians (which includes both the little and the big) which would have been a very highbrow thing to do. More likely folk would gravitate to the Card character Ender.

Yankees just won in the bottom of the 9th.  Red Sox tied at Washington in the 8th.  Jays rooting for the Nats.  Seattle about to go golfing.
