Pitcher Challenge 2013

This is something I do with my friends and thought it would be fun to bring to this board. Everyone picks 6 pitchers and you take the cumulative season stats for the 6, rank them for each category and see who ends up with the most points. Points are determined by the specific place in that category (ie if 10 people are in the contest, the winner of the category gets 10 points, second place 9 points, etc).

Categories I use:

IP (weighted 2x)

ERA (weighted 2x)

Wins

WHIP

Ks

BBs

HRs

CGs

Pick 6 pitchers total. There are no switching pitchers during the season, even for injury. You can pick a maximum of one pitcher from each of the following groups:

Group 1: Verlander, FHernandez, Kershaw, Price

Group 2: Dickey, Greinke, CLee, Sale, Hamels, JWeaver, Strasburg

Group 3: Sabathia, GGonzalez, Darvish, Cueto, Shields, Cain, Gallardo

These are tentative groups and stat categories. I am open to suggestions for changes. Comment if you have an idea for a change or if you need clarification on the rules.

To play send me a message with your 6 pitchers or post on this thread by first pitch of opening night (March 31). I will post everyone's selections some time in the first week and provide some periodic updates of standings.

For a prize I thought the winner could get a Prospect Handbook or a 2013 Offseason Handbook. If one of the mods wants to be generous and donate it that would be awesome or I could plunk down the cash. Winner can decide what they want.

Bump.

Now that we are a little further along in spring training anyone else interested in playing? You can post your picks in the forum or send me a message and I'll gather them for opening day.

Kershaw, Strasburg, Darvish, Sale, Medlan, Halladay

Strasburg and Sale are in the same tier so you will need to add another pitcher.

My list: Verlander, Strasburg, Darvish, Wainright, Bumgarner, Matt Moore

Kind of shooting for the moon with these by picking Darvish and Moore (and also Strasburg) but

1. Verlander 2. Strasburg 3. Chapman, 4. Darvish, 5. Sanchez, 6. Bauer

Not sure if you are aware or not, but Chapman was moved back to closer, and Bauer was optioned to AAA.

Wonderful idea, I'm in!

But I need help deciding between:

Group A) Worley, Pelfrey, Correia, DeVries, Diamond, Gibson

or

Group B) Dickey, Lohse, Liriano, Baker, Garza, Humber

Slightly kidding, but do seriously keep one of these groups as mine. I'll be interested in the stats comparison at season's end.

I will take the start that Verlander, Strasburg and Darvish are off to although Kershaw was the other tempting #1. He was kind of awesome...

Verlander... Strasburg... Darvish... Moore... Harvey... Bumgarner

Umm... Is it game over already... My guys are 35.2 innings... 40 K's and Zero Earned Runs so far.

I have the same team except I have Wainwright instead of Harvey. I really wanted to pick Harvey but I think he will struggle a little and probably won't go over 200IP.

He might... The Soph Slump and all... But... The kid can pitch.

It's not really that. I think he has a 2012 Matt Moore season where he struggles a little with control but there are signs of awesomeness to come.

I traded Sano and Arcia for Harvey in my dynasty and I am a little too enamored about him but it will take one more season for him to really break out. For the second guessers about the trade it's a pts league and pitching carries your team. Especially aces.

OK... Moore just threw 6 innings... No runs... 8 strikeouts.

41.2 innings

0 ER

48 K's

Can I get some love from someone please!!!

I chose to keep Bundy over Harvery in one of my leagues, I'm beginning to question that decision.

Harvey was the better choice for this season but Bundy could be awesome also.

Harvey over Bundy only because he's doing it right now.

If you are looking for someone to stash... This Wacha kid with the Cardinals might be better than them all.

I'm a little skeptical of Wacha as a dominant pitcher. He has the good fastball/changeup combo but not much of a breaking ball. I think that keeps him on the level just below these guys, but still another great pick from St. Louis.
