Gibault was my pick last time. Garlick would make sense but I don't remember the FO playing the weekly DFA game with individual players like you see some teams do.

 

They've surprised us before; I wouldn't count out someone like Gordon or Astudillo either.

Oh, but I guess to the main topic. $2M for Shoemaker? That seems like a bargain. If this team still felt there was a bit of money left to spend, I can't imagine this move made any difference with that prerogative.

 

There's still a few utility infielders and relievers I'd be interested in, and at this point, a couple million for each sounds both doable from both a financial perspective and from the players willingness perspective.

Shoemaker has been injured with various things since 2017. He pitched ~160 innings in the past 4 years, or what most starters pitch in 1 year. I'm assuming this signing is for long relief, though he does not have the rubber arm that is usually required for the role.

 

Maybe he will stay healthy in the bullpen. I'm hoping the Twins don't want him as a starter.

The fact that the Twins don't feel the need to go after a better starter than Shoemaker gives me hope that some of the Duran, Balazovic, Canterino, Sands, and Winder group are expected to be ready for the majors this season. If the team didn't have confidence in the major league ready starter depth, they hopefully would have gone after a much better pitcher like Walker or Odorizzi.
