The Payroll is lining up to have lots of flexibility.

C Mauer 23,000,000

1B Parmelee 500,000 Possibly Morneau resigns

2B Dozier 500,000

SS Florimon 500,000

3B Plouffe 500,000

LF Willingham 7,000,000

CF Hicks 500,000

RF Arcia 500,000

DH Doumit 3,750,000

SP Worley 500,000

SP Diamond 500,000

SP Gibson 500,000

SP Meyer 500,000

SP May/ Hendricks

SP Correia 5,000,000

CL Perkins 3,000,000

Burton 3,650,000

Deunsing 1,500,000

Fien 500,000

Swarzak 500,000

Robertson 500,000

Roenecke 800,000

Plus lets just go with 4,000,000 for a bench, add 1,500,000 if you think we have Carroll next year. Thats barely $51-2 Million for payroll for 2014. That opens a lot of options to fill holes. Especially if the Twins resign Morneau. That would give us a RF to trade hopefully Parmelee shows he can handle majorleague pitching and hit at least 25 HRs next year. That would make a great trade chip as he could be part of a package for David Price or another sp. I just picked price as he will be getting expensive and have 2 years before FA. What are some opportunities might be available with all of these resoures available?

Nice breakdown but saying "flexible payroll" is a bit optimistic for this organization. The free agent starters are going to be looking bleak mext year. Josh Johnson and Adam Wainwright are on clubs who will be looking to extend them. Lincecum will either pitch poorly again and be too big of a risk for a guy like Ryan to take a chance, or rebound and price himself out of the Twins plans. Garza didn't leave here with a great taste in his mouth and guys like Holliday, Carpenter and Dickey will nearly be 40. Of course, 1/3 to 1/2 of the targetable arms will resign with their clubs before the Twins have a chance to bid.

The Twins may have a low payroll heading into next years off season, but I wouldn't count on it increasing anywhere close to previous highs.

Worley and Swarzack will be due arbitration, but yes, that's a low payroll for not just 2014, but for the next couple of years. I also suspect that Willingham will be traded and Benson will be in his place. Ryan will be wise to do Longoria type signings and lock some of these guys up at cheaper rates long term and give them a bit more short term... There should be flexibility to add help where needed.

I'm not terribly excited by that middle infield or that bull pen. It would be nice if there is a decent FA signing that Ryan could front load a contract for. I hold out hope that Dozier can be an above average bat at one of those positions, but I'd put the odds less than 50%. Florimon is pretty MEH to me as well, and we will find out this season if Plouffe is going to need to be replaced. I think he can be a good bat, but I'd like to see more out of him than a Ruthian couple of months surrounded by absolute putridity.

Not to split hairs, but the pre-arbitration guys won't all be making the minimum. I think you have 14 guys listed... figure they'll make somewhere between the minimum and a million, you should probably add another $5-7 million to your figure.

I the new TV money (half of $25 million) plus any savings from expenditures this year.

Man, if Willingham departs, Mauer is traded.....what!!!!!!

Just realized Burton will be paid more than Perkins!
