Nationals interested in center fielder/lead-off hitter

Washington Post's Adam Kilgore tweets that Nationals' GM Mike Rizzo told listeners on 106.7 FM The Fan in DC that he is interested in finding a center fielder/lead-off hitter so that Bryce Harper can move to a corner outfield spot. Rizzo went on to say that he's looking for a "dynamic" center fielder.

The Nationals are fairly depleted in terms of starting pitching from their Gio Gonzalez last offseason but Denard Span or possibly Ben Revere may motivate them to swap another to complete their outfield.

Might as well take Strasburg since Rizzo doesn't want to use him.

The way we value our players, that is probably the deal we have been asking for. Span for Strasburg and a B prospect. Oh ya and the Nationals would have to pay half of Strasburg's salary.

If the Nats take Span, that would make 4 beards in the outfield. Who sits out? I guess Morse has technically played the infield before but there's not much room there either.

I heard they weren't currently negotiating with LaRoche. So Morse to 1B, Harper to LF, Span/Revere to CF???

wouldnt mind taking ian desmond or danny espinoza along with tyler clippard. Or getting drew storen. But we need a sp. So how about span and one of our b level prospects for jordan zimmerman?

lol!

I wonder if Revere might be a better fit for the Nats. He's got better range than Span and with Harper and an aging Werth, that's worth something. He's cheaper than Span and his speed game might play even better in the NL. They probably wouldn't have to give up as much for Revere as well.

Whose side are you on here gunnarthor? Don't give them any ideas...we want ACES and we want to get them by trading Span. (I personally would want Meyers or bust)

Revere, Blackie, and Swarzak should get it done.

Throw in Dozier and I think you're on to something.

And Drew Butera.

Obviously, at this moment, Revere is the inferior leadoff hitter. But how come in any Span v. Revere-as-trade-bait discussion the variables of cost and years of team control, and age, get thrown out the window? Value doesn't all boil down to a side by side comparison of OBP.

If Angel Pagan's asking price becomes too high, the Giants may be another option for Span/Revere. Not sure what they have to offer, though.

So, whatever happened with this rumor? Anything?

I hear we got a minor leaguer named Mike Meyers or something. I don't thnk there will be any controversy.
