Are the mighty Red Sox sellers? Who would you buy?

Rusney Castillo and Dustin Pedroia will make $27 million this year from the Red Sox. Price and Eovaldi have disgusting contracts for the next three years.

Sale's health is a question mark. Is now the time to try to acquire him? Will Boston extend MaMaMaMookie? Would he sign an extension with a team that trades for him?

I do like their signing of Jose Peraza. But they are making moves that are not very Red Sox like. Do you think they are about to rebuild? A complete tear down and rebuild is not going to happen, but do you see the Red Sox making a major move or two before the season starts? Who would you go after?

They've got a lot of money tied up in pitching and have a lot of young guys futures to consider such as Bogaerts at Benintendi. They've reached that point where even with a ridiculous payroll last year, they missed the playoffs due to a mix of bad contracts, injuries, and just natural increases in pay to their young core through arbitration. They also won't say it, but look at what the Yankees are doing. Their core is young and controlled for at least a few more years and are pulling historic free agency deals. The Red Sox trying to keep up may be a fool's errand in 2020. All of this means that if they can shed payroll/build for a comeback in the somewhat near future, they'll jump at the chance.

In terms of who I'd go after, the price is the bottom line. The Price and Eovaldi contracts are bad, but if some money is eaten off of them, we have the financial flexibility to bring in a pitcher that still has talent like either of those two. They're both kind of wild cards in terms of health and ability, but if all goes right, both have shown they can be high value arms pretty recently. I'm at a point where I say if it takes prospects, that's the price of doing business. Unless they're pitching for us for free or there's other talent involved, I can't see either pitcher being traded for any of our top 3-4 prospects.

I don't think Sale is going anywhere. There's too much risk and the Sox likely still value him too high for teams to take up that risk. For Mookie, I wouldn't be making a deal for the cost it's going to have. He's a fantastic player, but the outfield is the last area we should be wheeling and dealing for at this point.

Sale is not in play from Boston's and Eovaldi from the Twin's perspective. Seems outlandish that anyone would trade for one year and $28M of Betts and give up their top players in return. Now, if Betts is available at anything approaching a deal - yes, do it. Rosario, Javier, Enlow, and maybe Smeltzer. ?.

Price only if Boston takes a lower couple of prospects (Ober, Celestino) and pays a third of his contract (at least).
