How does that compare to our other physical wonder - Sano

Can't compute a launch angle and velocity if (a.) you don't play, and (b.) you don't put the ball in play.

HOF voting is so subjective. So, so subjective. It's very easy for one borderline candidate to get in and for another equally borderline candidate never to come close. In Mauer's case, it's obviously about longevity. In 2009 he was the best baseball player in the world, and it wasn't a fluke. That deserves some sort of consideration.

Subjectivity is at the core of baseball. The strike zone, for example, is subjective. The balk rule, is subjective. Et cetrra.

I'd say it's more his inability to pull the ball. It's very tough to hit for power as an opposite field hitter.

I seem to recall a lot of LF doinks over the fence for Mauer. That may not be “power”, but they still count as homeruns.

"A lot of" has not meant more than "eleven" in any season since 2009.

Define “a lot.”

He has SLG’d over .500 three years in his career, and one of those was 122 PAs in his rookie year. SLG’d under .400 five times. Career SLG .441.

Over 13 HRs once. Over 40 doubles once.

He has one year where he had ‘a lot’ of LF doinks over the fence, and even that was short of 30.

He doesn’t hit for power. This isn’t news.

And an inability to pull the ball in the air is certainly one reason. Most HRs are pulled, for everyone.

A lot meaning relative to his total number of homeruns. I’m sure someone can pull up a spray chart of his homeruns. Just a hunch that his % to LF is roughly 30%. To CF and LF combined maybe pushing 50%, which is definitely atypical.

If I am reading this right, 42 to LF, 28 to L-C, 19 to straight away CF, 26 to R-C and 23 to RF.

LIke I said, lots of doinks to LF.

I don’t think there’s any disagreement he has hit most of his HRs to left.

But that’s the point... he hasn’t hit “a lot” of HRs anywhere.

At least in part because most of his HRs are to left.

To bring this full circle...you need to pull the ball with regularity to hit with power.

The idea that Target Field  is the reason why Joe doesn't hit any home runs is absurd.  Remember, in 2009 Joe hit away 12 home runs so even if Target Field took away a few home runs he wasn't hitting them anywhere.  As it is, I don't recall Joe having very many near misses back then and now he rarely balls that make the outfielders back up.

IT isn't even about the HRs for me.  How about hitting some gappers?  Joe has been near the absolute bottom in ISO for the last I don't know how many years.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I was just hoping put to rest Sano wasn't in condition. Since exit velocity prove Mauer conditioning it would also support Sano' s hard work.

If only Buxton followed there conditioning program, maybe his exit velocity would increase. Sorry, forgot you have to put the ball in play first.
