John Kelsey Verified Member Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 The bullpen as a whole has been a huge disappointment but how 'bout Ryan Pressly? The ERA won't stay at 0.00 all year, but there's plenty of reason to believe he's figured it out and his peripherals looks great. Cheers to Ryan.
FormerMinnasotan Provisional Member Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Can he close? We can’t keep Rodney as he’s almost a guarenteed L every time he pitches in a save situation.

Closing, like pitching in any other inning, is just pitching. So he can definitely close. Molitor has to start using him in higher leverage situations.

LaTroy Hawkins, at least beginning in 2002, had the stuff to close but never really had the right mental makeup for it. I think Pressly can develop the mentality with a good 2018 season but I don't think he's ready to be thrown into the breach yet. I'd put Reed there next if Rodney continues to fail.
Twodogs Verified Member Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 About halfway through last year Pressly started pitching better. I mentioned last year that he has the stuff to close and that maybe he should be given a shot right after the traded away Kintzler. Right now I think Reed has the right stuff and has done it before too. Right now I'd try out Reed and move Pressly up to a set up position.
