Which teams are in on.....

Which teams are in on Cobb and Lynn? Tillman is likely going to the Os and Liriano is still out there. But who out there is still able and willing to make a financial committment to Cobb and Lynn? I ask cause i wonder if these guys could eventually be had for 1 or 2 year deals. 12-15 mill each season? Would Minnesota jump in and make a splash then? I think they are done really looking at pitchers but if a bargain shows up are we still interested in these two? What do you think they end up signing for?

Washington, Philidelphia, Milwaukii, us and who else?

Good question. I haven't heard many other teams tied to those two "big" names either. Don't know anything about who wants Liriano either, or even if he would be used as a starter or reliever at this point (the Astros were using him only in the bullpen after picking him up late last season). If the cost is right, I wouldn't mind the Twins taking a gamble on him again, but don't think we need any more arms in the bullpen at this point.

I was all about getting Darvish. With that possibility off the table (and Cole already traded), I don't think there is anyone left that really takes the rotation to the next level (aka World Series contender). At this point, you're better off going internal and possibly banking some payroll flexibility for next year.

There are quite a few options internally at the moment. Obviously, Santana, Berrios, Gibson, and Odorizzi are locked in when healthy. Sanchez will get a shot. Mejia likely has the inside track at the a spot if he shows a pulse this spring. Hughes could theoretically be useful if healthy. Duffey and May could be stretched out and given a shot with the added bullpen depth. Gonsalves will likely be ready before too long, and you have a Slegers there for emergencies.

Certainly not ideal, but throwing a Cobb in the mix isn't going to make the Indians or Astros lose any sleep.

Payroll flexibility so we can underbid for more top FAs and lose out again?

If the Twins pick up another free agent starting pitcher, I think we can be happy about this offseason, even if the Twins weren't picking from the top of the heap.

Right now, though... meh. We can be confident that the bottom of the order will be better at the very least.
