Time for Gibson to go - Souhan Strib

Also FWIW Gibson's agent should be well aware of the league minimum and the average value of a AAA contract.  That is what he should get if released. He would get released if the initial offer by the FO is rejected. He should not make it to arbitration.

If I'm the front office I trade him if at all possible but I don't offer him arbitration if for no other reason than to force myself to be actively looking for better pitchers in the off season.

Not that I think they'd do it, but I'd really hate for them to look at the 40-man, see experienced arms like Santana, Berrios, Mejia, Hughes and Gibson along with "in the wings" guys like Gonsalves, Romero, Slegers, Jorge and Litttel and start to get the idea that they might have too many mouths to feed as it is.

I think it has been proven over and over and over, there is no such thing as too many mouths to feed with starting pitches. Off the top of my head and a quick search I couldn't find a find that just had too many good starters that they had guys rotting away in the minors.

Beyond Berrios and Santana there is ZERO proof that anybody else of the roster or minors will do as good as Gibson.

With that said I would love to see them add a couple of starting pitchers to push all of these guys to perform better.

I hope they are aggressive enough in the offseason that Plan A is for Mejia to start in Rochester and Hughes/May aren't even considered. Build some actual, real depth.

This may include giving Gibson one more shot. Or at least replacing him with a veteran free agent. It's a little tricky to add 3 new starters in an offseason.

Not sure why Mejia should be slated to start 2018 in AAA.  He's basically been a league average pitcher this year which is obviously far better than Berrios was in his first go around the league.  Sure, he needs to show improvement.  But, I think he should be penciled in to a spot next year.  Not necesarily assumed one, but I would say not assumed out either. If for no other reason, why burn his final option if you don't need to?  Hold on to it, in case you need it in the future.

I don't think it is likely that Colon or Gibson are back.  It's an entirely different debate as to whether or not they should be, but I don't think they will.  My gut tells me that Colon's first choice would be to go back where it started and try to get however many wins he needs with Cleveland.  idk, maybe he doesn't feel that way.  He might like the idea of hanging around Erv, Jose and Mejia.
