Piranhas

Our bunting still sucks, but I like the low strikeout rate of our batters and our ability to put the ball on the ground instead of constantly hitting pop ups.

I still have my piranha w/ Twins cap promotional giveaway sitting at my desk.

And I remember one of the 'peskiest' things Ozzie used to comment about the Twins lineup was their ability to foul pitches and take long at bats (one of Punto's specialties).  I don't see anyone in our 2017 lineup doing that.

I don't know if what I'm seeing equates to piranas.

What I am seeing though is fundamentally sound baseball: decent starts, solid relief, great patience at the plate, some timely hits, and very good defense. 159 more of the same please.

The shoddy play is what appalled me most the last few years.

Case in point, D San's botched bunt at bat would have been par for the course last season, whereas if actually stood out today.

Are you sure about the spelling?

I think it's "piranyas".

If we're talking about the Royals pitching it's spelled "piñata".

And geez, I'm really regretting not coming up with that pun for the Twins pitchers sometime in the past half decade.

A Day Late and a Dollar Short. The puns never come to you when they are at their peek usefulness. It would have been celebrated.

Oh, I guess you missed some at-bats in the opening series. Lots of long at-bats that turned into walks. Including Escobar's Homerun at-bat, correct?

I guess if you were watching the games, you might know better than me.  I've mostly been following on Gameday.

If we take a statistical approach (small sample size for this year, of course), Nick Punto and Luis Castillo were two of the best piranhas and they averaged about 4 pitches per PA.  Let's see how some of the Twins are doing this year:

Dozier: 4.1 P/PA

Kepler: 4.5 P/PA

Buxton: 3.7 P/PA

Mauer: 3.9 P/PA

Sano: 3.3 P/PA

Castro: 4.4 P/PA

Polanco: 3.3 P/PA

Escobar: 4.5 P/PA

Santana: 4.0 P/PA

Rosario: 4.2 P/PA

I retract and concur; pretty solid so far!

Grossman: 4.4 P/PA
