Game thread, Sunday 3/12 split squad

Split squad. Coaches went with the B-team and minor leaguers up to Bradenton. A-team staying back and playing Baltimore B-team.

 

Polanco just hit a granny.

 

Buxton having good at bats.

 

Hughsie getting roughed up a little.

Hughsie taken yard again in top of third. Kepler had an outfield assist earlier. No wild throws by Polanco or Sano. Did I mention how much I like Buxton this year?

In Molitor's interview the other day during a game, he said the top 3 catchers right now are Castro, Murphy, Giminez, and the longshot was Garver

Vogelsong looked putrid against the Pirates. 2.1 ip 3 runs (all earned) against Pittsburgh. His spring training ERA is now 7.94.

That explains it. Would like to see him at least at AAA.

Except for the three home runs, all the other hard contact, the hit batsman while trying to pitch inside, falling behind in counts, all against Baltimore's minor leaguers, except for all of that, sounds like Hughes had a good outing too. Atteberry and Gladden can't say enough good things about it, anyway.

Good question about Garver. He doesn't appear in many lineups.

I don't think Garver has started much, but he has come in and has gotten playing time in games. I think he's a long shot as back up catcher anyway. Not quite ready for prime time, imo. He'll start in AAA I would think.
