Darrell Revis was cut by the Jets today. Talk about crashing down to earth. He used to be the most feared CB in the league. Now he's been getting torched for 2 straight seasons.

Would people go for Jamaal Charles on a bounce back deal? What about Chris Johnson?

 

Lots of OL being freed up. Even a mediocre set of OTs would be a huge improvement for this team.

 

I remain optimistic this team can win 12+ games next year and be SB contenders, if the OL can get even close to average.

Couple of notable-ish signings around the league.

WR Brandon Marshall signs a 2 year $12 million deal with the Giants. He's 33 and still relevant. Nice little 1-2 punch for the Giants partnering him with OBJ. 

 

WR Pierre Garcon signs a deal with the 49ers. Reportedly he's getting $16 MM in the first year of the contract. He's 31. I can't recall him ever being that good? Certainly not $16 MM good.

Well it's the 49ers so that should explain it a bit. Maybe there's a reason everyone kept comparing Jon Lynch to Matt Millen after all.

49ers have something like 110m in cap room.  I'm guessing a heavily front-loaded deal.  Still, Garcon is getting up there in years.

That's a good point. Still, I wouldn't expect more than 1 or 2 years of good production from Garcon. I would have kept the traditional back loaded deal and cut him when he was no longer productive.

I probably wouldn't have signed him at all.    But the 49ers may not have a ton of options.  And this may be a coach on the field move for a young QB.

The NFL owners have voted. By a vote of 31-1, the Oakland Raiders are now going to be the Las Vegas Raiders.

You may be asking yourself "Why are the NFL owners on board with this move?" 

Well, according to Darren Rovell on twitter, each NFL owner stands to make $50 MM a piece from the relocation fee that the Raiders have to pay.

They're going to find out very quickly how tiny of a market it is.... I can understand a hockey team moving there, considering most hockey arenas fit 15-20k people. 

Will they be able to fill a 75k seat stadium consistently? I have my doubts, unless they're banking on lots of tourists buying a ticket just for kicks.

The only way I can see this work is if the NFL is counting on a large influx of fans of the visiting team who are going to see their favorite team on the road as an excuse to go to Vegas.

 

If that's the case, Davis better never complain about how the locals don't support the team when the Cowboys and Steelers fans outnumber their own fans 2-1.

 

Unless they line the concourse with slot machines, I don't see how this is going to work.

If I go to Vegas, the last thing I'd do is go to a football game. Unless the Vikings are in town. They're going to need a LOT of traveling visiting fans I'd think.

I'm with you. There's too many other things to do in Vegas besides going to an NFL game.

Las Vegas is actually a pretty decent size metro now, and fast growing.

 

Issue is it's not an especially wealthy area and there is minimal corporate base. Not clear casinos would want people in the stadium instead of at their tables and sports books.

 

Adding a couple sports teams could be an interesting change for the city. Legalized gambling is not a growth industry anymore.

Yeah vegas has 2 million folks in the area, and 40 million visitors a year.

 

Also LA and Oakland still have a TON of diehard Raider fans, a round trip flight from La or Oakland is about $100 (and a quick drive from LA anyways)

 

Those are going to be some rowdy Saturday nights, Vegas is a perfect location for an NFL team.

The casinos will buy up the majority of the corporate ticketing. Putting a high roller in a suite is just one more perk for them.

It's certainly possible that people from Oakland/LA fly to watch a game... But man, that'd be an expensive weekend. $100 minimum for the flight, probably $100 per ticket, plus hotel, gambling, food, etc.
