gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I'm sure it's somewhere on TD but how is Thorpe doing? He didn't pitch at all last year and - it seems - none this year.
goulik Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 He had Tommy John surgery Spring 2015
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Missed the entire season with mono, which seems bizarre to me.
bird Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Let's hope we hear his name when Instructs start.
FormerMinnasotan Provisional Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Let's hope 2017 will be what 2016 was for Fernando Romero. Granted Thorpe is not as much a pure power pitcher as Romero, but if he has his 4 pitches (fastball, change, curve, and slider) working next year look out! We might remember what made him such a special prospect.
Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 He just threw off the mound last weekend, he looks to have lost 15-20 lbs. Mono can be a pretty big health impact especially for an athlete, the fatigue factor alone. Last year, Kolten Kendrick came down with mono as the team drafted him and after talking with him and his parents, it took him almost a full year to feel back to normal. I won't be surprised to see Lewis in Instucts in a couple weeks, think the Twins start up the 14th or so.
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Missed the entire season with mono, which seems bizarre to me."A feeling of fatigue or tiredness may persist for months following the acute phase of the illness. It is recommended that patients with mono avoid participation in any contact sports for three to four weeks after the onset of symptoms to prevent trauma to the enlarged spleen. The enlarged spleen is susceptible to rupture, which can be life-threatening." That's what happened to me in fifth grade. Ten days in ICU, then I was physically weak for most of a year. Mono can be really bad. If Thorpe had a bad case of mono, it could easily kill a whole year for him. From MedicineNet.comhttp://www.medicinenet.com/infectious_mononucleosis/page5.htm
