Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 The scandalous song of the middle school dance was Nelly "Hot in Herre" Lol, scandalous song in high school in my day was My Sharona. twinsnorth49, wsnydes, Platoon and 2 others 5
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 The scandalous song of the middle school dance was Nelly "Hot in Herre" I was a senior when The Thong Song came out. At a middle school dance, the DJ played The Offspring's Bad Habit without realizing what it was. Good stuff there. Vanimal46 and Riverbrian 2
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) Dumbest reasons for getting detention...Go! Mine would be for kicking an empty 20oz pop bottle down a stairwell and not picking it up. The principal watched me do it. That also has the distinction of being my old stint in detention. My parents weren't even mad, they just laughed at me because we all knew it was stupid. Not stupid that I got detention for it, just stupid. Edited August 23, 2016 by wsnydes Vanimal46 1
Platoon Verified Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 We had hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes. Good times. Yah. I love that over rice. Once, when visiting a Kraft plant, eating in their cafeteria, I had the hamburger gravy over rice. The guy sitting next to me said, "I see you're having the Gravy Train". It was never the same after that! Riverbrian, twinsnorth49 and wsnydes 3
Platoon Verified Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 In grade school, no detention. Just recess revoked. No idle time, we had to do math cards, showing our work. There was a key in the cards the teacher could use to check the cards at a glance. While we never figured it out, a friend of mine did so many, that he kept a list of the answers, as the cards were numbered. We stil had to show the math, but we didn't have to worry about correcting the mistakes! Riverbrian, Vanimal46, twinsnorth49 and 1 other 4

You could pop the lock on a door in the maintenance building that takes you down there. wsnydes and Riverbrian 2
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I don't believe I got detention, but a stern talking to for starting a Kitten Cannon/Slime Soccer league during our keyboarding class. Riverbrian 1
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I spend almost all winter in shorts. In MN. My standard reply to people who question my sanity: "when is the last known instance of hypothermia in the Wal Mart parking lots?" This is me as well. My wife will be in layers around the house and i'm wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Platoon and Riverbrian 2

twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Simultaneously dropping your textbooks on the floor is a good way to get detention. Throwing typewriters from second story classrooms. My personal fave was everyone trying to crush through the door at the same time as soon as the teacher opened it. Good times. wsnydes and Riverbrian 2
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Oh wait, those were good reasons. Dumbest reason? Asking to sharpen my pencil. Riverbrian 1

gocgo Verified Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Great intro RB. I brought my oldest off to college last week...big step. Cross the fingers. In South Dakota they have a place called the School of Mines. Not sure how it got that name, but I'm thinking that if they wander off the beaten path, they get blown up. Didn't want to deal with all the aftermath of that so I convinced him to pick another college. Riverbrian, Platoon and Vanimal46 3

wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 He's thinking along the lines of internet security actually.Interesting that he'd go to an engineering school for that. But hey, you like what you like. If he liked the campus and the program, why not? That's what is important. My aunt has a civil engineering degree from there. Riverbrian 1

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Detention; not so much. I do remember the nuns in elementary school having me wash my mouth out with soap after calling one of them a 'ratfink.' Also, Engineering doesn't suck, as career paths go. Platoon and Riverbrian 2
Platoon Verified Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 For not having a book cover on my geography book in the 8th grade. It had to be a parochial school? Lol. Sometimes we got it on the navicular bone with a wooden ruler. Riverbrian 1
