Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Vargas has put together a really nice -- albeit short -- stretch with the Twins, and I chatted with him about that yesterday for this article. http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/kennys-vargas-credits-chad-allen-mechanical-consistency-and-patience-in-resurgence/ As always, discussion is greatly appreciated.
King Provisional Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Good article. Vargas has been great. I'll be really interested to see what he settles into as a player. It's still early - he hasn't had that many plate appearances this season in the MLB, but the results (especially the plate discipline) are encouraging so far.
magiklair Provisional Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Interesting article. Thanks for posting
drivlikejehu Verified Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 In 2015, Vargas had a minor league BB rate of 17.2% (!!!) His biggest problem has always been that he doesn't consistently barrel the ball up and take advantage of his raw power. Honestly I don't see much different in that regard, despite a few big games after the call up.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 If Little Papi could have half the career of Big Papi, I'd be satisfied.
Han Joelo Verified Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Nice. Love the guarded optimism. Good example of player, coach, and management working together to fix a problem and get another chance. To bad the same thing didn't work with another flash in the pan slugger. One of those links was broken, I guess.
old nurse Verified Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 It would seem like it would be fairly universal tto teach players not expand the strike zone
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 I think Chad Allen is really good. He's only been back in the organization for like 3 years, but he's been a guy that players really like and learn from. He individualizes and gives ideas and works really hard. I talked to him about Vargas before the 2014 Futures Game. He was very excited to get back into coaching. http://twinsdaily.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins-minor-leagues/catching-up-with-chad-allen-r2967
dgwills Provisional Member Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 It's great to see Vargas having some success. Hopefully he can keep it up. I never gave up on him, but it was getting close. Glad Allen was able to coach him up!
