Five Chattanooga Lookouts players will play in the Southern League All Star game, and they'll be coached by their Lookout coaches. Doug Mientkiewicz will manager the team and his coaches Ivan Arteaga and Tommy Watkins will join him.

The players:

Daniel Palka

Travis Harrison

Mitch Garver

Trevor Hildenberger

DJ Baxendale

There doesn't seem to be much talent in the Southern League this year, especially on the hitting side. Looking through the leaderboards, there only appears to be a handful of upper level pitching prospects too.

Is there any reason why Zach Granite didn't make the team? He's been much better than Travis Harrison.

25SB at almost a 90% clip.... Also, BB and K are almost the same.

Harrison doesn't have one thing in his stats that stands out.

Granite has several and most of the rest of his stats are pretty similar.

He has some encouraging things about him. He also only has a .690 OPS though.

For a guy like Granite, OPS is a pretty meaningless stat (in my opinion). Simply, he isn't going to hit for any power. His doubles are singles that he turned into doubles.

Slugging Percentage for him will be pretty much his batting average. Speed is 100% his game... well, that and professional plate appearances.

I know you weren't replying to my post, but I was looking at the comparison between Granite and Harrison, and Harrison only has a .720 OPS as a corner outfielder.

That selection makes no sense to me.

Exactly.

Given that SLG% is just total bases divided by AB, if we add in his SB and subtract off his CS, his SLG% becomes 457

Now his "effective" OPS is 795.

I'm sure stats like WAR and RC don't think about it that simply, but I'm willing to :)

I'm not going to claim to have any clue how his defense is, but given the fact that he plays CF and steals bases at almost a 90% clip, I'm going to guess it's at least average. Probably better than that.

I've always been a proponent of an adjusted slugging percentage, something that takes stolen bases into account.

Congrats, and Granite should be there, imo.

Zach Granite needs a nickname like "Rock." Rock Granite makes the ASG.

I like Slate Granite better.  Won't forget this ST when a 5 yo kid came over with much bigger "stars" around Granite and asked Zach to sign his baseball.  Zach was like me, you want my autograph and the kid was emphatic to get Granite, the hell with AB Walker, Harrison, Gordon.  Now I'm thinking that kid knew something  ;)

I wonder if Trevor Hildenberger is ready to be a MLB ROOGY?

Lefties are hitting .167 off of him, so he could be more than that. I think he deserves a shot this year. Hopefully he moves up to AAA when Chargois gets the call.

I got to meet him this spring.  He's a pretty nice kid.  That alone makes me root for him.
