Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 i'll start by saying that Money doesn't always mean a championship and I think there is enough money floating about that any team can be competitive. Not at the Dodgers or Yankees level but enough to be competitive for any club. But let's ask these questions: Why did the Orioles fight to keep the Expos out of Wasnington DC? If they can't get a new stadium and the Tampa market sucks... Why don't the Rays just move to Portland or San Antonio if they are willing to build a new stadium. It's because the owners get significant revenue from the larger markets without baseball. Seattle would fight the move of any franchise to Portland because Portland increases their broadcast footprint and the amount of money they make in a TV deal. Houston and Texas would fight any move to San Antonio or New Orleans or Austin or Waco. Here's another question: What's the 2nd biggest market in Twins Territory? Rochester? Duluth? Sioux Falls? Fargo? All fine communities but nowhere near the population of Louisville or Tucson. The Twins are a small market team. You can't just look at the mid-teen DMA rankings of the Twin Cities and say it's a myth. Discuss
drjim Provisional Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Mid-market team, in the 15-20 range.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I'd vote lower end of medium, or higher end of small, because what matters is the number of cable subscribers.........that get FSN or whatever. Everything else in market size is probably not super relevant, imo. Heck, maybe they are small.....I don't have the data.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 They're definitely absolutely unequivocally small mid large market. Final answer.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 If any team does move to Waco, I bet Chip and Joanna Gaines could fix up a stadium for them with an all-in budget of $180k..... "Alright Mr. Pohlad, are y'all ready to check out your fixer upper?"
