When ou have 10 HR's in 145 at bats isn't your BABIP going to be significantly higher then even someone with 6 or 7? Thats an extra .020+ points over a solid power hitter.

 

Homeruns aren't included in BABIP. A home run is not a ball in play.

If it was to give Vargas another shot, that seems an even worse decision than the Santana over Escobar decision around the same time...

Maybe so. But Sano is SO GOOD, and Vargas (God bless him) so meh. Why wasn't Sano up in June? Presumably the rust was off. How often do you see a guy this well regarded, and this immediately impactful, kept on the sidelines until July?

It's not even as if Vargas was part of the good vibes from the winning month of May, in fact he was benched then demoted in the first half of that month.  Then recalled on June 8, the exact same day that Carlos Correa debuted.

 

I am not one of those discussing 600 vs 700 career HR for Sano here, but it is pretty clear he is in Correa's class as a young impact player in MLB, and probably was on June 8th too.

You gotta love his approach at the plate. Some of his walks have been more impressive than his HRs, so his chances for stardom are good. He has the attributes it takes: God-given talent, work ethic, and the desire to be the best. If the Twins surround him with the talent needed so teams don't pitch around him, the sky is the limit--although I don't think he'll ever hit for average like Cabrera. Just wondering though, how many had Danny Santana and Kennys Vargas labeled for super-stardom after last year?

 

Not me. It was obvious to everyone but the Twins that Santana was a BABIP flash in the pan and Vargas never had much of track record in the minors. Not to mention I tend to be dubious about switch hitting prospects.
