Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 in the spirit of making sure I don't forget about food and alcohol holidays, I'll post them here if people want. Today, August 6, is IPA day. Strangely, I have found three different listings for this, but the beer sites mostly agree it is today..... Interestingly, if you search "alcohol holidays", it mostly returns results about drinking too much, avoiding drinking, and non-alcoholic drinks. Is Google trying to tell me something? I notice that August is filled with trail mix, s'more, and roasted marshmallow days......
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Every day is a food and drink holiday if you do them right. Something I really enjoyed about Europe.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 When should I expect delivery on this? Uh, you are in Chicago, right? I might be there next month for dinner, I'll call you.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Mr. Mike, is this what you're going by? http://www.ocfoodies.com/page/foodie-holiday-calender
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 That one is missing IPA day.....so no f'n way. I've looked on Wikipedia (either no one from other countries updates it, or no other country is as silly as us), and http://www.thenibble.com/fun/more/facts/food-holidays.asp , but that one had IPA day wrong......I just started this idea yesterday. Haven't decided what the SoT is yet. I do love "national grab some nuts day" as a name though. Sorry I missed that one, well, sorry my wife missed that one......
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I'm skipping tomorrow … zucchini day.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Damn! Just missed Root beer float day. Question: What is the best root beer?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 Damn! Just missed Root beer float day. Question: What is the best root beer? not sure, but apparently breweries brewing it is becoming the rage right now.....
biggentleben Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 I'm skipping tomorrow … zucchini day. Interestingly, I just found a recipe that I won a recipe adaption contest for when I was in middle school and part of 4-H. I removed large portions of margarine and all added sugar in a brownie recipe and added zucchini that has been ground to a mush. The brownies had more of a dark chocolate flavor, but the flavor was quite intense, and you never knew there was zucchini in there from the flavor or texture. The recipe got lost for years after I made that and my mom just found it. I noticed my wife brought home some zucchini, so I may decide that brownies make a good dessert this weekend!
biggentleben Verified Member Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Damn! Just missed Root beer float day. Question: What is the best root beer? Usually smaller brands have a ton more flavor, but on the more national brands, I'd say that for floats, A&W is best, for drinking alone, I prefer Barq's.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2015 Author Posted August 9, 2015 Tomorrow is rice pudding day. In August?
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 This should be every day. In fact, Dick and Bert should do this the remainder of the season.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 My calendar says IPA day again, not sure if that's a mistake but I can live with it.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Heaven was an original A&W root beer, from a keg, in that frosty glass mug.
