Wolfson 1-on-1 with Terry Steinbach

KSTP-TV's Darren Wolfson sat down with former Twins player and coach Terry Steinbach. They talk about him not heading to spring training for the first time in 31 years, his future and keep tabs on the Twins. It is a terrific 12 minute interview. Take the time to listen to it. Very nice.

This is trivial, but having been away from Minnesota almost 20 years, what jumped out at me was when he said shouldn't.  "Shoont."

 

Emotional situation for a stoic Minnesotan, being let go from the Twins.  He professes no hard feelings.  But he measured his words, here and there.

Yeah, I'm sure it's not a great situation for him. I think he wanted to come back from the sounds of it. My guess is he'll be coaching somewhere again in a year.

As he should.  I doubt anyone can fand any substantial fault with him for the team's failures the past four years. 

 

I'm still surprised it Vavra was picked over Steinbach.  Full disclosure: I was looking for a new personality for the bench job, not that I thought either man caused the team to lose 90 games a year.

If someone would have told be Vavra would be the last of that long tenured coaching group I would have laughed hard.

I'm not surprised. We learned he wasn't the first choice, but he's incredibly wise and knows the game as well as anyone.

I was a bit surprised when he wasn't part of the staff. But more so because I just think we were all certain he was going to Arizona. I do find it strange he's not a roving instructor at least. Not only do I think he could offer a lot, but after years of a ML schedule, he might appreciate a different set of demands and scenery doing such.

Hard to feel sorry for any of them...  They are all wealthy, played a game and their team sucked for a while.
