According to a Star Tribune report, the Twins will hire Neil Allen to be their pitching coach under Paul Molitor.

Allen, a coach in the Rays' system since 2007, including the past four seasons as pitching coach at Class AAA Durham, was informed of the Twins' decision on Friday night, the sources said. He was the pick over former Cleveland and Seattle pitching coach Carl Willis, the other finalist.

Miller quoting Allen: "I'm not afraid of contact. I don't want them to be afraid of contact, I want them to put the ball in play. I don't like base on balls."

TwinsDaily is a serious website. Please stop making jokes like this.

The first un-Twins-like move of the off-season.  No ties to the Twins, no major-league coaching experience.

Well, not entirely un-Twins-like.  Miller quoting Allen: "I'm not afraid of contact. I don't want them to be afraid of contact, I want them to put the ball in play. I don't like base on balls."

But his staff has also led the International League in K% the last three years, so there's that.

This is the guy I wanted.  I'm wondering if Gene Glynn had some input, either in the initial suggestion, or in the pursuit, or both.  Now that I got what I voted for, I'm probably just as likely to be proven that we got the wrong guy, but I've always supported hiring Rays personnel, he has a great track record of success, and now we have two on the bench in prominent roles.  Kudos to Terry Ryan for getting this done.

Seth, they kept this one very close to the vest- I'm wondering if Allen came on at the last minute or if he was a front-runner all along- as I said, did Glynn have any input here, or someone else?   Do you know who's going to write-up the story for Twins Daily?

This guy looks like he's going to be a very good interview and a refreshing breath of fresh air!

Not in-house enough.

They can still mess this up with the bench coach and first base coach, but I bet they go outside for at least one more.

Unlike Willis, Allen has no major-league coaching experience, making him an interesting choice for new manager Paul Molitor, who has never managed at any level before.

Wrong, Allen was the bullpen coach for the Yankees in 2005.

I was cool with both finalist - But Allen is more of an exciting choice and a guy who has never done it at the major league level as a coach, those kind of hires can be fun sometimes. It sounds like he has paid his dues and deserves this position.

I feel that most who participate on this site have admired the Rays Organization from afar the last half dozen years and it is good to hire a guy from an operation like that.

The Rays have lost a lot early into this offseason - to bad for them - hopefully our gain.

I will defer to you since you follow it pretty closely.

But has anybody showed the Twins the K% chart recently? My goodness.

The guy even looks like Rick Anderson.
