The point of the games is to win games. They have been awful for two weeks. So yes, I do tend to judge the success of a team on wins. I'm not saying your opinion is not worth having, I'm saying I disagree with the conclusions you are drawing. If that makes me some kind of bad fan, I don't know what to say.

I am not counting the 2 wins in November as having happened. If they do, then we'll have seen progress. Right now, they look about the same to me.

If winning games is the goal, people should be begging for the return of Glen Mason.

As someone who played under Mason, I'll tell you that would be a major step backward for the program.

What is the point of the games?

Not denying a win is the goal.  I completely reject the notion of winning record being the only measure of success, however.  It's akin to telling me that Bartolo Colon was better than Johan Santana in 2005.

They looked awful against Purdue as well. (Purdue!)

They won't defeat a team worth a damn as long as Leidner is back there "throwing" the ball.

The defense? Sure, Purdue gave them some problems. Leidner? They put up 450 yards of offense and scored 39 points. Yeah, pretty clear he was the problem.

I agree that wins is not the only way to judge a program. I don't agree using the win stat for a pitcher helps your argument, since wins ARE a team stat.

On the field (note, I know nothing about the classroom, which SHOULD be the point of college, but this country has f'd that up already), on the field, it should be about wins and losses. Until they win 9+ games and win their bowl game, on the field, they look the same to me and to most casual fans.

This answers all I needed to know about the discussion.  Thanks for saving me significant time in the future.

Nice win today. Two trophies in the display case...it's been a long time since that last happened.

One more big'n to bring home.

Get.

That.

Ax!

What a thorough pummeling! First time in 47 years that Floyd and the Jug sit in the trophy case in the same year, was also the same year said axe was also on campus as well, coincidence?

But you know, same old Gophers.........crickets.

I was actually in the cities this weekend, but sadly at a funeral rather than the game.  I checked on the score in between the service and the luncheon, and I had about a half dozen people ask me the score.  Thorough trouncing of the Hawkeyes in one of the two games that matter all season (seriously, if they won 2 games all year, and those two games were over Iowa and Wisconsin, I'd be overjoyed!).  Leidner looked composed in the pocket, and the jet sweep really made a big difference.  I was hoping for .500 the month of November, but I didn't think a single game would have the Gophers scoring 50 and the opposition scoring a meaningless junktime touchdown just to hit double figures on the scoreboard.  I might even be pleasantly surprised this month.  I sure hope I am!

Well, it's certainly the same ol Leidner.

4/12, 57 yds, 0 td's, 2 INT  (also missed Maye for an easy td)

Had a chance at the end, which is better than pretty much anyone would have predicted preseason for the Gophers, but this was not a well-played game by Leidner or the Gopher defense.  Hopefully both bounce back next week.

Swap QB's and the outcome probably changes.

I hope they are able to recruit someone to play that position well enough to keep the passing game consistently effective.

Better play from the QB position could have changed the outcome but then again it might not have. OSU is an outstanding team and while it is frustrating that Leidner played so poorly when the game was there for the taking, it is still a positive step for the program in the big picture. The Gophers still have a ways to go before they can put themselves in the category of the Buckeyes, but they are getting closer. Looking forward to the Wisconsin game, that's the one that really matters anyway.

I'd take inconsistently effective at this point.

Hey, better teams than the Gophers have lost to OSU (looking at you MSU), no shame, they played hard and didn't fold their tents, unlike past Gopher teams.

Absolutely, it is readily apparent how far Kill has brought this program. The next step is the progression of the passing game.

That was basically the same game as the Vikings / Bears game......if the other team isn't killing themselves, the game isn't that close. The coaching in the 4th quarter for the Gophers was bizarre, imo. Punting there (the fumbled one) was a really bad decision. The lack of urgency on that drive was terrible also. That's all on the coaches.

That said, the other team did give them a chance, and they nearly took advantage of it. Still a loss, but they did not quit or get rolled.

And say what you want about results...this is the biggest change I've seen in this team.  They simply haven't given up in a single game I've watched.

Wow, Gophers sure are loving these fumbles.  And Leidner made a pass!

The rushing yards aren't that impressive considering what the Huskers gave up last week.  I'd like for the Badger game to be competitive, but..

I wish Minny vs. Bucky was at Minnesota or a neutral field, but hey, if they can put the emphasis on what Wisconsin doesn't do well, they can make a game of it.
