Mauer and Nolasco in? Who's out?

I'm ok with a Willingham trade, trading Burton, Swarzak, DL for Arcia, I don't really see anyone else I'd be ok with them loosing.  Vargas could go back to the minors but he's been hitting so I'd rather avoid doing that.  Deduno has been lights out as a reliever.  He had given up 9 runs in 41.33 innings before yesterdays clunker in relief.  He currently has a 2.74 relief era and 14 runs in 44.33 innings.  And he has 43 strikeouts in those 44.33 innings. 

 

My gut tells me multiple guys have already passed through waivers.  We never heard anything about Correia making it through.  The FO keeps info close to the vest, so a trade might take place soon.

Twins have only had 1 start less than 5 IP each of the last two weeks (Darnell and May).

 

For the season, by my count the Twins have had 22 starts of less than 5 IP in 116 games, or just under 20%.  That's an average of once per turn.

 

Sure, ruin my theory with facts.

So Hammer is gone, but the question still stands. Who makes room for Nolasco? I would add, does Nolasco return to starting duties? With the money into Nolasco I would guess Pino goes down, and Nolasco starts. But... Maybe Deduno gets DFA'd and Nolasco relieves.

Almost certain that Nolasco will take Pino's spot. Of course, something could happen. The Twins have traded four guys in the past 12 days, somebody else might go. Barring a trade or injury, it will be Nolasco for Pino.

Question is, does Pino ride the shuttle back to Rochester immediately?

 

Or does he start again to keep the normal schedule going, then punch his ticket for Nolasco to be activated?

 

I know Swarzak, Deduno and potentially Pino seem redundant. But fast forward to next season when you have to fill out AAA with Rochester with prospects and a couple solid AAAA fillers for depth, as well as additional competition for the Twins long relief option. By this I mean, simply discarding them might not be a great idea. Further, I don't get the hate on Swarzak. He's been solid in his role, outstanding at it last season. But there are those who seem anxious to kick him aside. I don't get it.

Pino might figure next year, but the Twins have three guys who figure for that role. Pino will have options remaining, which is a benefit for him and the club.

RP'ers with low K/9 rates and 4+ ERA's don't have a lot of value beyond being a warm body that doesn't kill the team.  Swarzak might have been outstanding last year but most would attribute that to luck.  He is much better than Eyre or Bass or most of the long men that the Twins have had.

 

Pino will be back for the DH'er in a couple of weeks and in September.
