3B?

Ok, let's say the Twins finally give up on Plouffey, and either send him to another team or sneak him through waivers this week. You need a 3b starter by May 21st (I think that would be the first day they could bring Valencia back up). What would you do, and why?

For the sake of argument, let's assume that no other team is going to be willing to trade with the Twins between now and then, and no one else is going to be sent through waivers by another team between now and the 21st.

Honestly, Sano. I just went throught the minor league rosters and that is the best I came up with. No one else is worth a call up. I know I know, he's still in A ball, only 19, he needs more time, bah bah bah, etc etc etc. It is either Sano or get someone in a trade because at this point there is NO ONE that can fill the needed 3B roll. Didn't need Inge huh?? Weird, he has hit like a mad man since Oakland claimed him.

Can I play James T Kirk, and not play by your rules? There is no winning under the secenario you present, so I'm going to say, "keep Plouffe there" for at least 1 month, and see what happens. What can it hurt?

Yeah I'd call up Sano as well. Either that or let Carroll/Casilla handle it for a week. But Sano is the ideal route you go here.

How can you keep him there when he is batting just as if not worse than Danny was?? Plus his D is worse. SANO, SANO, SANO!!!

I imagine they would move Carrol over to 3B before even considering such a drastic move. I see them giving Plouffe a few more chances, as it seems his at bats have been solid, hits are just not falling in. His defense has been limited to a tough luck error in the first inning of the game yesterday and a pop fly that he should have taken charge of in the game on Saturday.

Because Valencia had all last year, and Plouffe has a handfull of at bats less than 1/4 of the way through the season.....gotta give the guy a chance before writing him off. I have no idea how you can give up on a guy this fast. Besides, they are NOT winning anything that matters this year, so give the young guys a long leash and see what happens. You guys would have cut Viola his rookie season..... Patience young jedi, patience.

Agree with MWW... Plouffe is the right decision, and at that point you go back to Valencia... If neither of those work, consider Florimon and Chang, or maybe even Deibinson Romero...

I assume everyone saying Sano are kidding, right? Cuz, that would not be so good.

Let's hope everyone saying Sano is kidding. I have to agree that you let Ploufe have a shot at it for a few more games before you make that decision, but for argument's sake, you move Carroll over to 3rd for a bit. If you don't trust Lexi at 2nd, then you maybe call up the Florimonster to take over there, but he's my adopt a prospect, so I'm a bit biased.

I would say carroll, because he has played plenty of 3B in his career. It also keeps his glove on the field, and gives the Twins some serious infield range if Casilla can return to form at 2B.

Ray Chang would be the first option I go with. If he can't produce either I'd throw DB Romero into some triple A for a week or so and then promote him to the club or revert to Valencia. The Twins don't have much depth at 3B so it's difficult to find someone worth the call.

As much as I hate it, I think you have to stay with Plouffe too. I certainly wouldn't bring Valencia back up, nor Burroughs. Plouffe has a lower average, but higher OBP - he gets walks. And Valencia's defense is not so much greater than it is worth losing that with a switch.

If Plouffe went down with an injury, I think you're only option is to promote Chang (who is having a decent year in Rochester) temporarily and start working the trade/waiver wires and hope you get lucky.

True MLB top-10 prospects often start their major-league careers at 19 or 20. Why should we be waiting until 2016 or whatever for Sano?

How about because he just turned 19 and hasn't played a single inning above A-ball yet? And who suggested waiting until 2016?

Valencia was at AA and thought not to be ready when they brought him up. And he produced, for awhile. I like Jamey Carroll there. Yeah, give Plouffe a chance, but FOR HOW LONG? Count me among the DUMB POSTERS--after all these guys don't pan out--BRING UP SANO!!

Valencia was in AAA for nearly a full season before his callup. Sano isn't even to Ft. Myers yet. He's in Low A. Yes he's crushing it. But there is ZERO reason to rush this kid. This season is sunk, don't **** up the best prospect in your organization.

Plouffe would be on my short leash, man. Such players are proving to be platoon-only types. Same for Valencia, unfortunately. Maybe recalling Valencia and Burroughs and platooning . . . otherwise, cycle in Ray Chang and see how he does.

Can we let Plouffe play a position--a position of need--for more than 3 or 4 days in a row before we decide he can't play it?

And Ray Chang? Good lord, man. He's 28--29 this season--and has 5 seasons of .677 OPS suckitude in AAA. Which, by the way, is .100 pts of OPS LESS than Trevor Plouffe.

Bring up Sano, and watch him flail at filthy curve balls, change ups, sliders, fork balls, etc. Do you think major league pitchers are going to throw him fastballs? That's what he's hitting in A ball, mostly fastballs, because most pitchers can't rely on their spun balls to get guys out. They don't really start seeing great off-speed pitches until they get to AA and AAA. By that time they start seeing future starters and relievers, plus guys that have been in the majors, sent down to rehab or work on their stuff.

In the low minors you can survive by not swinging at off-speed pitches, or feasting on off-speed mistakes. In the majors, they'll be happy to strike your butt out with off-speed stuff. You bring Sano up before he learns situational hitting, and you'll ruin his confidence.

On the other hand, if you bring up Ray Chang, you've got a third baseman who already knows Dozier. Chang's a good fielder, and his average right now is over .300. Slap hitter, but he knows which way first base is. If Plouffe continues to whiff, might as well bring up a decent contact hitter, Ray Chang.

I guarantee you that Ray Chang does not post this OPS in 65+ plate appearances.

Plouffe, bench him, he doesn't have to play every single nite there.

Well, he could DH instead of Doumit, who would catch instead of Butera . . .

But yeah, I would prefer a Carroll, Dozier, Casilla infield right now. That's an improvement defensively and offensively.

I did mention back in the winter somewhere that I thought a Morneau/Plouffe DH platoon would be a good option. Oh well.

I don't know why they don't try moving Mauer over to 3rd. He would be better defensively than Valencia and he's more valuable there than 1st. That would also allow the poor defending Sano to move over to 1st and develop there.

Plouffey!! Gotta give him a position, let him stick there for a month or so.

As repeated often, they aren't going to win this year. Give Plouffe an extended look at one position.

If it doesn't work out, cut bait and signed washed up veteran Joey Bag-o-donuts or whatever. No use bringing up Sano and having him completely struggle
