snepp Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Got to take the lead this inning. I'll settle for a tie at this point.
amjgt Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I'll take a sacrifice fly to the right field seats
mnsports255 Provisional Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Why can't Gardy ever swallow his pride and make the (right) decision to bunt Mauer? Runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, down 1 run in the late innings, and a bunt moves the guys over to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. If you let him swing, your just asking for an inning-crippling double-play. That's the 2nd time I've seen that happen with Mauer this week. At what point does Gardy realize that no matter Mauer's track record, laying down a bunt in that situation is the SMART thing to do?
mnsports255 Provisional Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Mauer kills the rally once again, and Gardy proves his late-game strategy is as bad as it gets from a manager.
glunn Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Mauer should have bunted. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
stringer bell Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Ouch, should have scored there. When they get a guy on second with no one out, it shouldn't be a long shot to score.

Gardy might also have noticed that Mauer is not having a career season.
howeda7 Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 OK- here's the situation: top of the 9th-Angels ahead 14-13, 2 outs, bases loaded, Angels bring in their toughest, meanest, ugliest left hander to face Fuld. Gardy decides to pinch hit-a.) Arciab.) Florimanc.) Fryerd.)Nolascoe.)Vavra? A. MolitorB. Steinbach
longstrangetrip Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Maybe Mauer should bunt here?[/QUOT Was just texting with my son about that. .260 singles hitter, 1st and 2nd nobody out, I run game. Of course you bunt! Gardy should be fired on the spot!
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 RE: CJ Wilson, LA's announcer says, "... and somehow still in line for a W."
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I would actually prefer a 3 hitter who nobody would dream of wanting to sacrifice.
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 RE Willingham's non-catch just now, LA announcer says, "That ball almost hit him on the toe."
glunn Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Nice play Santana He was clutch there. Major league SS.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 A. MolitorB. SteinbachBruno over Florimon, too, for sure. I'm only half kidding.

Not that bad but you are right -- Gardy still sees Mauer as the teams best hitter, and #3 hitters don't bunt, meanwhile people here at TD wonder if Mauer should move down a few slots, have wondered for several weeks
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I thought Dozier should have swung at the second called strike, outside part of plate, perfect to move Santana over. That was key there.
snepp Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I'm only half kidding. Half? The guy's only 53, it's not like he's dead.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Half? The guy's only 53, it's not like he's dead. Concur. Fully concur. Strongly concur. Concur, concur, concur.
glunn Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Escobar gave that one a nice ride.

howeda7 Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Bruno over Florimon, too, for sure. I'm only half kidding. I wasn't kidding. I honestly think Molitor has a better chance of getting a hit than Florimon, as long as he can make it to 1st.
snepp Verified Member Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 No fresh pitcher here? Really? Have no fear, there'll be a fresh one here shortly.
glunn Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Have no fear, there'll be a fresh one here shortly. Too true my friend.
