The Twins have announced that 1st round pick Nick Gordon has signed with the team.

 

Mike Berardino is tweeting that he has talked to people with direct knowledge and hearing that they have agreed to the slot value of $3.851 million.

 

Very nice to get the signing done quickly. He'll report soon to Ft. Myers for a mini-camp.

 

I'm surprised that the Twins also announced that he would play for Elizabethton. Typically, high school picks have started in the GCL before moving up to Elizabethton midseason (Buxton, Berrios, Stewart, Gonsalves of late).

 

Joe Mauer started at Elizabethton. i'm sure there were others... maybe?

Nice. MLB changing their draft signing rules was one of the smartest thing they've done in a long time. Now guys can get right back into baseball instead of waiting for a year or better to play in the minors.

This is spectacular news. Clearly the Twins and Nick wanted to get busy. The Elizabeth announcement may be an indication just how much Twins Mgmt believes in this pick. Also coming from Florida he shouldn't have too much difficulty learning the language (Minnesotan), eh?

Abso-tively. I would like to think this indication of aggressiveness means the Twins even consider a Midwest League appearance before season-end if Nick kills it. That gets him with Mauer and Watkins for their evaluation and a to-do list as a jumping off point going into Winter Ball.

Add to that some tuition money bringing total to $4 million - but only slot amount counts toward total.

Does the tuition money mentioned above pay for Gordon to attend school in the offseason or does it go to a fund for him to go back to school after (or later in) his playing career?

Is the tuition good for flexible school attendance? Maybe 1 day or 1 night, is Saturday all-right. Is online just fine, nighttime anytime?
