I'm curious as to how many of these teams run extreme metrics based play and use inning limiters during the season. I look at last night's Phils/Padres game and it was an awesome event to watch. 4 hits between the 2 teams. Impressive pitching, defense, and managing won that game. Yes the game was won on 2 HR's, but both starters pitched very effectively.

That is what I expect starters to do. Of course, none of these teams have Rocco as manager or Falvey/Levine telling them what to do.

It's the playoffs... those "rules" and expectations go out the window.

I'm not so sure they would with this FO/manager combo and their stubborn refusal to vary from "the plan".

These are aces and post season games, like Reptivia said in post season season games all regular rules go out the window. The last CLE/ NYY game, especially the game postponed I was expecting Beiber to start that  game to win against the "Evil Empire" but they didn't.

If the rules go out the window when it’s most important to win, how much value do those rules have?

So, sort of a rule of thumb?

That's a deep statement. I read this several minutes ago and I'm still pondering it.

It has something to do with attitude and to do everything to win today...right now. Tomorrow be damned.

It also depends on one's definition of "when it's most important top win". I never like Gardy's quote, "It's a long season", usually made after a particularly disappointing loss, when the Twins' bullpen blew a 3 run lead or after the Twins were swept by the lowly Tigers/Royals/whoever. It is my belief that the definition of "when it's most important to win", is today's game.

is that even legal? Rocco must be astonished that such a thing is contemplated by other managers. Haven’t they checked their computer algorithms, which makes all Rocco’s decisions. How dare they manage by intuition or having a hunch!
