The season is now 18 games old and some trends can be determined. The Twins are hitting .231 vs. left handers with an OPS of .670, while they have hit .261 vs. right handers and put up an OPS of .773. Looking at splits when the season is only 11% complete means that the sample sizes are really small, so there will be outliers. However, I think the numbers tell us something. Some items of note: Three right handed hitting regulars (Dozier, Plouffe, and Pinto) have reverse splits. All are hi
The Cedar Rapids Kernels sported a 9-7 record as they departed for Peoria Monday for the first of seven road games before returning to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, April 28. They enter the week just two games behind Kane County in the Midwest League’s Western Division standings. One reason for the success they’ve had thus far has been a power surge in the heart of their batting order. The Kernels lead the MWL in slugging percentage entering this week’s games largely due to powe
I was so hoping the Twins would pick him up. I was thrilled in hearing the news of his acquisition, He will be an upgrade to Aaron Hicks in every way. Fuld can immediately bat lead off and we wont have to see the huge Hicks look terrified to play. Hicks might have the physical tools.but I dont think he has the mental tools..there is no pressure on him, that is until now. Gardy please start Fuld on Tuesday, bat him lead off..and let him play himself out of position. Its ok with me to send Hi
I think think this is a good time to address this issue. Of all the positives we've seen so ar this season, SS seems to be a lighting topic. And despite the "sign Drew" advocates, this doesn't seem to be a real/impending possibility or a long term answer. So other than trade or next year signing possibility, where does that leave us? Florimon is outstanding defensively. We've all seen what he can do. And it's truly a pleasure to watch him. But the second half of last season didn't match the f
Just figured what Aaron Hicks is doing rong at the plate. In the movie "Blazing Saddles" there's a dance scene where gay dancers push their hands forward while pushing their asses backwards, singing, "...that's why they're doing the French Mistake..." Yup, Hicks is doing the French Mistake. It's not as obvious as in the comedy, but the effect of letting your rear hip trail behind the swing accomplishes the same thing: no power, no reach, lots of weak pop-ups. The rear hip has to torque in fron
It's gotten to the point where you can't make up what's happening with the Yankees this month. Sporting an infield that featured the likes of Yangervis Solarte, Scott Sizemore (first major league start), Brian Roberts and then later, Dean Anna and Kelly Johnson (along with Derek Jeter), the Yankees continued their remarkable and unlikely run to the top of the AL East in April. Tonight, Solarte started a picture perfect 5-4-3 triple play in the 2nd inning in the Yankees convincing 10-2 w
The season is still very young. I don't want to get too wrapped up in early optimism, but something has to be said about the lineup and production thus far, especially considering the generally pessimistic nature I think most of us felt at the close of ST. There was a lot of gnashing of teeth, despite the "they can't be any worse therefore they must be at least somewhat better" mantra. There are flaws and concerns still to be sure. (Not here to necessarily rehash the SS argument at length agai
To say that Rochester Red Wings pitcher Scott Diamond has had a tough start to the 2014 season, would be putting it nicely. Diamond, Rochester’s opening day starter, is 0-2 on the season with an International League worse 15.58 ERA. If that large number wasn’t enough, through just nine innings pitched in three starts, Diamond has allowed an IL worse 25 hits and walked seven batters as well. [video=youtube;kt9mr38054k]
After his last start against the Pawtucket Red Sox, where he pitched
http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9483604.jpg Happy birthday to our very own Jay Corn! As a birthday present to Jay, Paul skipped the show! Without him Eric is free to heap all of the praise in the world on Brian Dozier, and he does. Jay Corn revisits his prediction that Josmil Pinto will hit 25 home runs (which is not looking so bad right now), and we wonder what might happen to Pinto's playing time when Josh Willingham and/or Oswaldo Arcia return from the DL and
Gardy might just be as stupid as a fox. First if you have read my posts in the past, you know I am the President of the Sam Deduno fan club..(is there one?) First you have all this money in starting Rotation and you have Gibson who surprisingly has performed very well..but you also know Deduno is filthy and can beat ANY body..yes, Yankees you heard me right!... As much as I love Deduno, I have to admit a problem with him Late in the last two seasons.he has come up lame...so how do you keep
The Twins fell to the Blue Jays on Tuesday night due in large part to the wheels falling off the Phil Hughes strikeout express in the 6th inning. After cruising through 5 innings, limiting the Jays to 4 hits while striking out 5 batters, Hughes suddenly couldn’t retire a single batter and was forced from the game clinging to a 2-1 lead with 2 runners on and no outs. Those runners would score (plus one more for good measure) which left Hughes with a disappointing stat line of 5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4
The people who pay attention to such things during professional baseball’s offseason were pretty much in agreement in their expectations for this team coming out of spring training in Fort Myers. The starting pitching should be quite improved, perhaps the best it has been in a few years. The bullpen should once again be sound. But when the topic turned to the offense, one question was nearly universal, “Where will the runs come from?” Now, roughly two weeks in to the 2014 season, there
Joe Mauer is tied for the 8th highest salary in baseball in 2014. Could this be the worst money spent by a team in 2014? I want to say that I am a Joe Mauer fan. I have said from the beginning, I think the Twins needed to sign him, even though I wasn't a fan of what he was going to be paid. I also believe we should have attempted to trade him in 2012. Can I be a fan, blame the Twins, but also say they had to sign him all at the same time? I am not sure I can be fair on this, but I was alwa
For the second Tuesday in a row, weather played havoc on the Twins farm system. Only half of the teams were able to get on the field and both of those teams didn't exactly like the results on the night. Some hitters continued their hot starts to the year but the pitching seemed to be the biggest problem on this night Fans who braved the weather at Target Field got to see Phil Hughes get off to a great start before giving up a chunk of runs in the sixth inning. The Blue Jays have held the Twins n
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
