Who gets traded this year?

I was thinking that there was a really good chance this year that by the end of August there is going to be a whole new Twins roster to watch. So I went through the roster and listed each player as well as the probability that they would be traded or released by the end of August.   I did this because I do not believe the Twins will be all that good this year (see, well out of contention by July) and I believe that there a lot of players that won't be back next year, the Twins will be promotin

Full Tilt Failure!: My Baseball Story.

Whiffle ball led off my failed experiment at playing baseball. We owned two thin yellow whiffle ball bats and two big fat red bats. We hacked away with the yellow bats and eventually, after spinning around on strikeout after strikeout, someone would stomp into the garage and grab Big Red. It was the only way we could get a hit.   This was country ball. There were never many of us, so pitcher's hand rules went into effect. Bases were usually leaves, sticks, or scratched out portions of dust. Game

White Sox and Twins: Rebuilding

The contrast in rebuild between the a White a Sox and Twins is shown in the acquisition of 27 and under players since last opening day.     White Sox     Adam Eaton Adrian Nieto Avisail Garcia Jose Abreau Leary Garcia Maikel Clato Conor Gilaspie almost makes the list. He was acquired last spring training.     Twins     Phil Hughes (actually it is his age 28 season and he is older than any of the White Sox 7)     There has been an argument that the Twins can't go young because they don't gave any

Keys To The Twins 2014 Season

Originally posted at http://troystwinsdugout.wordpress.com/2014/03/31/keys-to-the-twins-2014-season/   It's getting close to the start of a new season for the Twins. I'm optimistic that the Twins could have a 500 season. You could say I'm being overly optimistic here, but a new season always is a fresh start.   However, there are some things that Twins will have to do in order to have a more successful Season this year. Their three consecutive seasons of 90 plus losses is certainly not something

The funny thing about Gardy and Bartlett

When Bartlett was just coming up and had talent, Gardenhire constantly jerked his chain, he couldnt do anything right, Bartlett proved he could play with the Rays...and now, a washed up Bartlett who cant play, makes the team....oh well give those kids some at bats in the minors..I guess...

Suzuki is really batting 2nd?

Why on earth is Suzuki batting second? Last year his OBP was .290, career .309. This literally makes no sense at all.If Mauer plays under Gardy for 15 years, it would be interesting to see how many more RBI's he would have at the end of his carreer with a guy that gets on base in front of him. Casilla, Suzuki, etc.http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=340331104&teams=minnesota-twins-vs-chicago-white-sox

Gotta give my 2014 Twins Preview!!!

This has probably been said multiple times yesterday and today, but I am going to say it again, one of my favorite times of the year, MLB opener!!! Our beloved Minnesota Twins start the 2014 season in Chicago at 3:10 vs Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox. Before the game, it only makes sense to give projections and thoughts on what the Twins are going to accomplish this year. Here are all of my random thoughts and predictions for 2014 and your Minnesota Twins.   I have heard every opin

Last Time It's Happened?

Adam Brett Walker II hit the first pitch he saw in his first MLB game and drove it out of Jet Blue Stadium for a 2 run Home Run and the start of a key 7th inning rally, in which the Twins took the lead for good (7-4). It was the most runs the Twins had scored since March 14th.   This kid is special. Does anyone know of the last time a Twin to hit a HR on his first professional MLB pitch? He followed his great start off with a double to left center in his next AB. 2 for 2 on the day. The mos

Twins 2014 Season Predictions Part 2

It's time for the predictions for the Twins pitching staff! Here's the format of my stats: ERA/K per 9/ BB per 9   Ricky Nolasco 2013: 3.70/7.4/2.1 2014: 4.53/6.0/1.7   Nolasco had a career year and cashed in with the Twins. His career ERA is 4.37 and that's 100% in the national league, and that's gonna go up with the Twins. He does have the capability to go past 6 innings, so in the end he will make the Twins more competitive.   Phil Hughes 2013: 5.19/5.7/1.9 2014: 4.07/4.9/1.8   If the ballpar

Twins 2014 Season Predictions

Now that the 25 man roster is finalized for the Twins, I'm going to publish my predictions here and then analyze them at the end of the year to see if I guessed anything correctly. -Stats I'm going to use- Batting Average/On base percentage/HRs   C Kurt Suzuki 2013: .232/.290/5 Prediction for 2014: .240/.297/7   We all want Pinto to take over. Suzuki has severely declined over the last two years. As much as it seems like Pinto will take over, I think Suzuki actually has a decent year and gets hi

Opening Day Mindset

Baseball returns, and the internet trembles.   The devout among us spend our days filling our brains with bucketfuls of thoughts. When presented with a keyboard, we pour these thoughts into various molds and send them out into the world.   We find others who agree with our world views and we build ideas about why the ball moves the way it does. We create grids. We build structure. We invent games to prove we understand baseball better than baseball does.   We think we own this game that has li
