I'm traveling for work the first half of this week, so I won't really have an opportunity to write a regular weekly update on the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Perhaps it's just as well, though, because the Twins' Midwest League affiliate did not have a real good week. The Kernels dropped from the second spot in the MWL Western Division standings all the way to the cellar, as they endured an eight-game losing streak. That losing streak ended Sunday in Burlington, however. Cedar Rapids topped the Bee
How does that strike you? I am betting you go, that guy (me) is an idiot. Think about it, we are loaded at AAA with Pitching.. What do we need? We can get it for one of our great young pitchers, but what would you want? A cf? A ss? a catcher? Hmm..looks like we are pretty stocked..I guess I would take a Power Hitting First Baseman...thoughts?
On this week’s podcast episode, Dan Anderson and Parker Hageman take a field trip: The No Juice Podcast heads to Target Field to experience the Twins’ Deckstravaganza event. There, the guys talk about the recent happenings with the Minnesota Twins, take your Burning Twitter Questions™, assign blame to the response of a high school prank, and chat with Keith Beise, the team’s social media coordinator. They also shot a handy video for you that demonstrates how to get
The 1991 World Series will always hold a special place in the heart of Twins fans. Kirby Puckett's heroics in Game 6 and the magnificent pitching performance of Jack Morris are legendary moments etched into the minds of a generation of baseball fans. Many consider this World Series as the best of all time and it all comes into focus in the newly released book "Down to the Last Pitch." To get a better understanding of this legendary World Series, author Tim Wendel breaks down every game by usin
Kurt Suzuki is out producing the expectations of even the most optimistic Twins fan. He’s 30 years old and coming in to 2014 had a career line of .253/.309/.375, and even that is rosy considering what he’s done the past two seasons, .234/.282/.332 (for reference, Talk to Contact favorite, Drew “Boat Anchor” Butera, is hitting .231/.300/.385 in 2014). So the Twins bought low on a guy and brought him in with the hopes that he could help out Josmil Pinto, and because Suzuki is seen as a good “clu

I have constantly championed Samuel Deduno. Despite his success there are always the detractors, who listen to media instead of making valid observations, maybe they dont watch twins games. Yesterday was very different Deduno Speak, Dick and Bert were efffusive in their praise for him, hmmmmm..something came down from on high this was in sharp contrast to earlier comments..the players and Andy all gave him huge praise and Andy was right on about him pitching..to be effective and and as good a
The Minnesota Twins won their third game in a row on Saturday to push their record to over .500 on the season. Starting pitcher Samuel Deduno gave a quality start effort, and Brian Dozier continued to provide the thump in the lineup, slugging his eleventh home run of the season. It was a 3-run shot in the fifth inning that gave the Twins just enough cushion. There was plenty offense for a few of the Twins affiliate’s lineups on Saturday, but their pitching didn’t provide them with the same h
Right now, the Twins have a wealth of shortstop candidates. Conventional wisdom is that shortstops aren't platooned because working with the keystone partner is so important. Here is my view on the shortstops and my best guess to what will happen. I invite anyone else to comment and offer their opinion. 1) Eduardo Escobar. Escobar is starting most games right now and why not? He's hitting over .340 and he's pretty good in the field. News flash. Eduardo Escobar won't hit .340 and he's n
I know i expect too much of him, but its his fault...if he didn't make sparkling play after sparkling play, I wouldn't be surprised that nukes hit his way got by him..but he has been human a little lately. Problem: You cant afford to rest him, he is the twins best player right beside Suzuki and Escobar... You guys see fatigue?
Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----- Phil Hughes so far (8 starts, about a quarter of the season) has been the Minnesota Twins' best pitcher and should definitely have All-Star consideration. In addition to his old school 4-1, 3.61 ERA, he has 7.6 K/9, 6.7 K/BB, and 1.225 WHIP. This translates to a 41.6 PE, which is in Ace territory. Take into consideration that he achieved that with a .326 BABIP (thanks to the Twins' playing catchers, shortstops and designated hitt
If you can still remember the early part of the season, Chris Colabello was a monster. He was hitting .346/.386/.577 through the first 20 games of the year. He had nine multi-hit games, and went hitless just four times. He was the darling of the American League for a while due to some timely hitting and a bunch of RBIs. But his line since April 23 tells me the league has started to adjust. Since April 23, Colabello has been hitting an anemic .125/.188/.188. Over those 17 games he has just tw
2014 was labeled, and I feel acurately, as a transition year for the Twins. A year where we begin to say goodbye to three disappointing and frustrating years of non-contention, bad baseball, and 90 loss seasons. A year where we begin to talk about a more competitive team who could threaten for a .500 record who has a legitimate chance to win nightly/daily. A team bridging the gap for higher expectations in 2015 and beyond. Despite disappointing setbacks to such talented prospects as Sano, Buxt
From a pure hitting perspective, it's easy to see why Manager Ron Gardenhire has put Danny Santana in center field twice. He's hitting better than CF Aaron Hicks, although he does not cover as much ground. Eduardo Escobar has also seemingly found his bat. So to have Escobar at SS and Santana in CF makes the most sense from a hitting perspective. Although neither Escobar or Santana are as good at fielding as say, Pedro Florimon at SS or Hicks in CF, both appear to be adequate defensively.
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
