  1. Great lead today, Tom. Add me to those who are more than happy to wait for Rooker. Sure don't want to call him up for a few games then burn an option. Seeing he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man this year, expect it is 50-50 he will be a September callup. The Twins have a pleasant problem. Rooker and Kirilloff are both corner outfielders who can play first base. Larnach is a corner outfielder. Diaz is a first baseman. All four are hitting well, very well. With three outfielders who will hopefully be the starters for the next 5-7 years, there isn't a lot of playing time available in the outfield. Probably will have an opening at DH in 2021. There should also be some time available to split with Cron at first base. But there isn't going to be enough playing time for all four....maybe two at the most. Expect the Twins are going to have to move at least two of this group at some point in the next two to three years. They will keep whomever appears to be the best, but should get a nice return for the other two. Will one of them be included in a July trade this year? Or next winter? Curious why you chose Schick as Pitcher of the Day over Rijo who threw 5 shutout innings with only 1 hit? Also excited to see if Lewis can extend this hot streak beyond a handful of games.
  2. Another less than stellar start by our pitcher. Gotta expect all three will get back on track, hopefully soon. And considering all the innings pitched, the bullpen hasn't been all that bad. Only problem is Berrios better go 7 or 8 today cause Rogers will probably be unavailable. It is clear to me that the MVP of this team is Buxton. There is no question it is a different team when he isn't out in center field and raising havoc from the #9 spot in the order. How different will this team be defensively (Kepler in right) and offensively with Buxton at #9 and Cave in Rochester? Very different, at least in my opinion.
  3. Glad to see Jax on this list and suspect he will be higher next year. All Academy grads have an active duty commitment of X years. Some change/increase for various reasons, such as my niece's husband who went to medical school on the Army's tab. I know Jax has been released from active duty per the Olympic program. Do you know, Seth, when his actual active duty commitment ends? Count me amongst those who would flip Wade and Davis. Expect that Wade won't be on the 40-man beyond November, at the latest.
  4. Oh what a beautiful morning. Oh what a beautiful day. Alex Kirilloff was back playing baseball. Hopefully he is back to stay! I like that you gave De La Torre hitter of the game. But Rooker sure had one heck of a day. Great seeing him hitting like we all hoped back when he was drafted. Speaking of De La Torre, Seth, have been led to believe he is the best defensive shortstop in the organization...is he? Hopefully, these last couple games will be something Lewis can build off and just plain rake the second half of the season. Also great seeing Rortvedt hitting well in AA. I guess Bluefield got taught a lesson, ie, if you beat the Twins be prepared to take a beating the following day. Didn't recall who Bentley was. Checked to see he was a low draft pick out of a Texas JC last year. Had a nice season in the GCL, maybe someone to keep our eye on.
  5. Back to back ugly starts. Guess a rough patch was due to happen at some point. Key will be getting their swagger back. Beating up KC in two of the three remaining would be a good start. Had been of the opinion that Stewart slipped following the progress he made last September. Encouraged by what I saw last night.
  6. Was good seeing Benninghoff pitch for ETon last night, although the results weren't good. Widell was a pick I thought had promise back when selected in the 7th round of the 2017 draft. Was last night his professional debut? Would have sworn he pitched one of the last two years. Saw that Diaz was promoted to AA, but not Larnach. Hopefully, that is a sign that Kirilloff will be active when they resume play later this weekend. The DSL Twins lost 8-4, dropping them to 6-8 for the season. Urbina didn't play. Another 17 year old outfielder, Rhodery Diaz, was 1-4 with an RBI. Diaz has been one of the Twins top hitters early this season.
  7. Maciel's 2019 stats aren't AAA, are they Seth? Good seeing Poppen in the rankings. Based on what we saw last night and what he has done this year would think he should probably be higher than #40. With all the disappointments to starters penciled in for Rochester this year, hoping he is a pleasant surprise that will help the Twins as the season goes forward. Was encouraged by Stewart's stay with the Twins last fall. Not so much this spring.
  8. When your starting pticher takes 40 pitches, or whatever it was, to get thru the second inning, you are screwed. Great seeing the energy from the double A's. Thought Cave would be better after hitting so well at AAA. Every game I see him I am more convinced Arraez is the second baseman of the future. Add me to those who thought sending Cron home was a mistake.
  9. Hopefully, no version. I for one am happy to go to war in the postseason with the army that gets us there. With Pineda getting better almost every start, we will have 5 good starters from which to choose 4. Now do we need to add an arm or two to the bullpen, yes. I hope that is where the FO focuses their attention and uses their ammunition to strengthen the pen.
  10. If you can go back and find my comment, I actually used that comparison after his first outing whenever that was. Something about the way he acted on the mound, getting his fastball into the upper 90's and being a former starter hit a note that said Nathan to me. Probably also some wishful thinking, but what the heck.
  11. I haven't been disappointed in his performance, Tom. Yes, he had that ugly inning or two when he sucked it up and gave the Twins many innings in that one ugly loss. But I remember what I think was his first appearance. Saw him pitching in the mid 90's and even touching 96...if memory serves. Watched him and thought could this kid develop into something like Joe Nathan was? Still don't know what his future holds, but I am hopeful. Will he be an answer this year, maybe part of the answer.
  12. Looking at this ETon boxscore, should be fun seeing which of this year's roster develop into good prospects over the summer.
  13. I see Gross (Round 10) is on the ETon Twins roster. Does anyone know what he signed for?
  14. Has anyone discussed the changes to the Elizabethton organization this year? If memory serves, the team and ballpark were owned and managed by the City of Elizabethton Rec Department. Per several news releases, I understand that Boyd Sports LLC has entered into an agreement with the City to takeover management of the park and team. The Twins agreement with the City has been transferred to Boyd Sports. As part of this change $2.3mm has been spent on Joe O'Brien Field, including a new locker room for the Twins. I believe the ballpark had been in pretty rough condition, so this should be a welcome change.
  15. The Appy League roster limit is 30, correct? With 30 listed above, any word on who will be going to the IL to make room for Wallner and others still unsigned?
  16. Now that Benninghoff is 2+ years past his TJ surgery, really looking forward to seeing what he can do. Should be very good pitching staff. Surprised that Canterino (Twins #2 pick) isn't on this roster. Certainly can't be headed to GCL, will he be going to Cedar Rapids next week? Also, any word on where the Cuban will be going? Should be higher than ETon, but where?
  17. Congratulations on your pending marriage, Nick. I am beyond excited that Gibson is settling into the Gibby we came to know last year. Now with all questions of what effect his offseason illness will have, it is time for this FO to get him signed to an extension. Need starters next year and all indications are that Gibby wants to stay. What a fun week for the Twins and Twins fans. But the cracks in that bullpen are getting wider with little help internally for a repair. One partial fix that to me should be easy is picking up a lefty specialist rental. Something like the Zach Duke deal last year, although hopefully someone a bit better. Shouldn't cost a ton and there should be someone out there who is now available. Won't solve the problem of that late inning shutdown righty to go with Rogers, but someone that can surely help the bullpen. Coming into the season we thought we had three candidates for this spot, Mejia, Moya and Vazquez. Although a good plan, it didn't work out. Let's see them fix it...soon!
  18. Congratulations to the Kernels. After losing five of their first six games, what a nice run to the playoffs. And what a way to take care of business on the last day of the first half. As for the comments above, count me among those who see Arraez as the Twins starting second baseman next year. Could also be the lead off hitter unless the manager doesn't tinker with the success of having Kepler-Polanco up top. I don't see Schoop traded this year, doubt they will mess with this lineup's chemistry. If anyone gets traded, I suspect it will be Gordon. It seems like yesterday that the Red Wings dropped to 13 games under .500. They aare now 2 games under...that is hot, hot, hot! Gotta believe that Smeltzer is in the Twins plans for 2020. Expect we will see him back in September, if not sooner, to confirm that decision. Nice start, albeit short, for Jax as he builds back up from missing time. And congrats to Bechtold who is having a nice season that has gone unnoticed, at least by me. Will Kirilloff be in the Wahoos lineup later this week after the break?
  19. Burlington won last night, putting the Kernel's 1.5 games back. The Kernel's will need to win the suspended game, they are up 2-0 early, and also win the scheduled game. But that won't be enough unless Burlington loses putting them into a tie. The Kernel's have the first tie breaker, head-to-head play, thus would sneak into the playoffs. Considering their really cold start, that would be a great achievement. The DSL Twins lost yesterday, 2-1, to the Phillies Red. Urbina led off, going 0-3 with a walk and rbi. We are rapidly approaching June 25. My offseason Christmas wish is that Brusdar Graterol, Alex Kirilloff and Yunior Severino are all playing on that day!
  20. When Trevor May is pitching, I get real nervous waiting for that next walk. But I like what he can throw up there. When Parker is pitching, I just get real nervous. I hope that first bullpen move is soon, very soon.
  21. Great 3-0 night, 3-1 if you include the DSL Twins 8-3 loss to the Rockies in which Urbina did not play. Another great game at Rochester by the Double A's, pushing the Wings to within 4 games of .500. Also third straight shutout appearance by Moya. Could he be getting on track? Is Winder a legitimate top prospect? Or more of the Wells category, someone who gets great results without getting anyone overly excited about his future? See that the Kernel's still trail Burlington by a game for that second wild card spot. Plus, I suspect Burlington has the tie breaker. Can't expect there is more than a game or two left in the first half so that cold start probably cost them a playoff spot. Time to restock from the draft and EST and make a second half run!!!!!!! [Edit: went back and checked, their record vs. Burlington is 6-5, so the Kernel's hold the 1st tie breaker. Not positive, but think there is 2 games left for them to make up the 1 game deficit....go Kernel's]
  22. Wasn't any magic from Houston, the difference is he met Kate Upton!!!
  23. Totally agree, Brock. One shut down reliever with a couple years control, plus one lefty specialist that could be a rental. All in for the shut down guy and the other shouldn't cost all that much...prospect wise.
  24. Looks like it is going to be another large class of signees. If memory serves, the Twins used to sign around 25+/- players out of each class...even when they still had 50 rounds. Somebody probably has this at the tip of their fingers, but I believe they signed around 33 last year making it one of the largest classes ever. If my Wisconsin math is correct, they have already signed 20. They will certainly try to sign all the top 10 which would add another 7. Also get the middle infielders from Auburn and another one or two elsewhere and you again have a class over 30. Seems to be the new plan going forward.
  25. Bit surprised that Canterino signed for that much under slot, -$238,500. Starting to build a nice warchest to maybe go after one of the high school kids. Or maybe will need some of it for Julien? He is the one that the Auburn coach commented on?
