    Would a contending team trade a bullpen piece? I was thinking a team that's out of it might want an arb eligible player to fill a hole next year. However I think he will be due $8-10m next year in his final arb year so he may price that option out.

    Nice we squeaked out one, could've been worse or better. Very dramatic series! Miranda made a couple of solid defensive plays late to help us seal it. Kid could be good.

    We might all be able to agree (am I serious?) that when a catcher sticks his leg out to the side to get low, it has a negative effect on how well he blocks pitches and how well he can throw runners out. I believe going low is thought to improve a catchers ability to get the low strike and even more important for big catchers like Jeffers. It then follows that the organization must, as the article states, place a priority on framing since all their catchers stick their leg out. Ok I guess. I don't like watching a team run at will on my team. If robo umps are instituted I'll bet the leg will promptly be moved in and we'll get to see how well Jeffer's can perform from the traditional catcher's squat. It may be that larger catchers like Jeffers are slowed the most in the run game by the framing stance.

    When I see LaTroy with the mic I'm pleased. He is my favorite sidekick for Dick. He has the right tone and pace, never too much. I've always liked Justin, but just not in the booth. The opposite of economical, I prefer someone saying something once. When he has the mic I often blurt out yeah I get it! He goes on and on about the psychology of the game. Player's confidence. Talking about that every game. Tedious.

    That stat on the Yanks is a trip. I don't like calling for people heads and I did say I thought Bundy was done after the Yankee start (I think that one). Well I'm going back to not calling for people heads, lol. Last night's start should be tempered by the opposition, though. Patient teams with superior eyes at the plate like the Stros and Yanks will give him trouble.

    Some good quips in this article, funny. I did just watch him crush a 2 run homer against the D Backs an add an obvious release of frustration bat flip.

    Archer is coming off of years of injuries and is on an innings limit slowly building stamina, Gray is coming off back to back IL stints and is on an innings limit quickly building up to full go, Smeltzer is healthy and they let him go over 100 pitches. The Twins front office staff, trainers, medical staff, coaching staff and these players are all on board with this situation. I'll bet to a man (or woman) they all would love it if these pitchers were pumping out complete game shut outs and I'll bet they all like winning. The Twins have been running out pitchers that on paper one wouldn't guess they'd be in first place, but yet they are. Someone must be doing something right.

    Wait so you don't think Gray being pulled when he was wasn't because he just came back from two IL stints? "It can't be both ways; our stats say they don't do well 3rd and 4th times through, but it is only because we are protecting them from injury that we limit their innings, especially when the innings just happen to coincide with where they are in the batting order. It makes your head spin." I think it is more than both ways it is all ways. Many factors go into every decision they make, as it should be. Stretching out from injury downtime. 3rd time through the order. Who is coming up next? State of the patented TD Bullpen Usage Spreadsheet® Injury history (i.e. Archer coming off multiple injury riddled seasons) and their plan for dealing with it. Performance in the moment. For me this is what I like about baseball. The in-game strategy.

    Guy goes on the IL, comes back pitches one game and the injury flares back up, goes back on the IL, comes back and you would throw him 9 innings?

    Pretty sure the chatter was headed for the end of Jeffers, worked for one day. Gosh I think Polanco should be riding the pine now that the All-Star Arraez has got second covered!

    The trend in baseball is away from a full time DH. Gives you more flexibility. I like this strategy, unless of course you can get the bat Cruz brought everyday (those are hard to come by). Miranda came up with 3rd base as his most prominent position. He has stated he likes 2nd base the most, but imo he doesn't have the chops for that position. I'd like to see him eventually settle in at third. I think I read where Buxton is on pace for 130 games this year. If that's the case, keep doing whatever your doing.

    Gordon has no options. They won't lose him now. Maybe some like Speer could bump him in the future.

    Archer has some great energy, but I have to wonder if he is wasting some on the mound. In boxing you can plainly see when one fighter is bouncing around and the other calmer, the calm fighter has the clear stamina edge as the fight progresses. Other things being relatively equal, of course.
