  1. "A couple of questions surrounded Miller when he was drafted, including his age and skill level coming from a cold-weather state. He was already 19 years old, which is old for a high school player." Not to nitpick, but his B-Day is in November. He didn't turn 19 until Nov. 12th (after the draft). Born: November 12, 2002 (Age: 19-221d) in Fredonia, WI Draft: Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1st round (36th) of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft from Ozaukee HS (Fredonia, WI).
  2. Good point. Although, IF Correa decides not to opt out after the season (and considering his current contract with the Twins he has a really good safety net to bargain from a position of strength with the league) I think we can all agree that the Twins and the FO will welcome him back with open arms and not walk away from him.
  3. His stats at OSU were... well ok Last year he only committed 1 Error. NOT defending that he is having a really rough year with the glove, just hard for me to make any kind of educated observation about what kind of defender he is overall without seeing more.
  4. ? ? In my defense I went to public school and was left alone unsupervised.
  5. I'd have to concur on Festa being able to make AAA if needed this year, but I have a strong feeling though that he finishes the year at Wichita. Not because of lack of ability, but rather I believe, because the FO doesn't need him to reach AAA just yet. Also concur on Steer. He's just a baseball "dude". Loving his grinder mentality.
  6. Well said. I think this illustrates well that with a pick this high (#8), you pick the best player available regardless of perceived depth issues (plus like Dman, I don't believe that C depth is as bad as some people espouse). As I said, I think Parada is a great player and I would totally root him on if selected by the Twins regardless of how I felt about the pick (just like Sabato and Cavaco... note, I am NOT saying they are the same type or caliber of player). In addition to the best player available idea, teams also have to factor in the signability of the player. From the outside looking in (to me at least), this looms just as important. What the player is willing to sign for can have a beneficial or extremely negative impact on a team's whole draft. In the end, there are just way to many factors in this process for me, which makes me totally glad that I don't have to make those decisions .
  7. Watching GT play in the CWS regionals I came away impressed with Parada. I personally wouldn't select him in the 1st round, but I do think he's a great player who has the toolset to make it to the show.
  8. I can almost guarantee if Lesko isn't selected in the 1st Round he's going to Vandy.
  9. I'm really hoping that's a big nope from the Twins. I won't deny that Lesko has lots of potential... but in the end, that's all I really see from him. He's another HS arm with big fastball who's numbers were inflated by pitching against weaker competition (his HS team played in a terrible conference). He may go on to have some success, but he's the type of kid who really needs to go to college and learn to be a pitcher and not just a thrower.
  10. When selecting this high, a team really needs to pick the best available talent rather than organizational "need", especially given the sometimes lengthy time period between the draft and the player's MLB debut. Generally, I feel like we see teams drafting for need in the later rounds.
  11. Very true I would say... with the exception of #5. On this one I guess we will have to just disagree. Now I'm not saying Rocco and Wes have been perfect in managing the bullpen in game situations... they also however, haven't been terrible either. If we as fans want to pick out the times where a choice didn't work out we also need to at least acknowledge those times where the decision worked (even if it wasn't pretty). When approached from a neutral standpoint/view, the bullpen use has been just fine. Yes, not perfect, but then this is baseball... it's not supposed to be perfect. This is the terrible and cruel beauty that is the game that we love.
  12. I can see your viewpoint and actually understand it, but just can't get onboard with the whole idea of "Robo Umps"... at least not yet. I still don't think the technology is where it needs to be for it to be truly effective. This isn't to say that it won't be someday, but right now... it just seems like there are too many flaws or quirks that need to be worked out.
  13. There is never a justification for Robo umps!! Never!! ? just kidding… we’ll, no not actually (will never approve of them), but yes I am just having some fun ??.
  14. Totally understand But 1987 was the Cardinals 1991 was the Braves
  15. Interesting note about that second part... Nick Sandlin's brother (the Cleveland relief pitcher) was my son's varsity assistant coach the last two years. According to Nick via his brother Jake, there is a lot of respect for what the Twins have done and how they are playing.
  16. I can understand your viewpoints and even appreciate the sentiment. Is it possible the wheels come off and the Mystery Mobile bursts into the expected Viking funeral pyre, taking Shaggy, Scoobes and the rest of Mystery Inc. to the place where hopes and dreams go to die... of course. It's baseball, these things happen. But in the end... this team is good. Good enough to win it all? I honestly don't know, but sure I hope so .
  17. Thanks Roger. I was wondering about that when I saw the box score for Blazer Beam (since I got sidetracked last night and forgot about the game). I figured it was something along those lines. Bummer to see the rough start, but he's a quality guy and I fully believe you can still learn and grow even when things don't go smoothly (also promising to hear that he settled in and didn't implode after the initial bump) . I believe he'll be fine eventually.
  18. Also went and looked up CES' bio from OK State since B Ref only listed his 2021 college year. The guy has been crushing it for a while now and looks like the part of a serious baseball "Dude". Time (and better and better competition) will tell just how far he goes, but the building blocks are there... this kid can play ball. From his Bio at OK State: JUNIOR COLLEGE: An All-American performer at Yavapai College … hit .410 with 31 doubles, 33 home runs and 103 RBIs in 81 career games … sophomore season was cut short due to COVID-19 pandemic but prior to that he hit 11 homers and drove in 33 runs to go along with a .430 batting average … as a freshman in 2019, was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was a First-Team All-American and First-Team NJCAA All-Region I honoree … was also a national Gold Glove Award winner … led the ACCAC with 22 homers and 70 RBIs and was second with a .402 batting average … drafted in the 34th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by Seattle.
  19. Thanks for the heads up Seth, looked pretty cool. Very interesting to see the takes on another organization. Although, if I'm being honest... felt a bit naughty going to another site (OMG, I'm such a horrible person!) just kidding... it's a pretty good site
  20. Can't help but feel that this is pretty spot on. Sometimes, guys just don't figure it out fully despite prodigious God given talent. I won't ever say, "Sano... it's all your fault." because baseball is just cruel and unforgiving even in the best of times. Not every player has that "plan" for when their talent alone isn't enough, and at that level it never is. God speed to wherever life and baseball takes Miguel, but I believe you are right Trov... it probably isn't in MN any more. ?‍♂️
  21. Love the write up as always Seth. Your passion for the game and telling these guys' stories is evident and we are honored to be able to read it everyday . Got to watch a couple of Wichita games this week on MiLB, and I have to say that Steer is in total Beast Mode. You might even say that he has really grabbed the bull by the horns .
