    In the end it's a baseball decision. The front office certainly had to make a tough call, and anyone who follows this team probably isn't surprised. The Twins aren't known for rushing young talent, if anything they tend to leave the training wheels on for a bit too long sometimes. Right or wrong, it's very possible the Twins may be thinking about playing to Correa's ego here. Not saying Carlos is angry or worried about Royce being here, but maybe the Twins want to assure Carlos that he is their SS of the future. They still want to sign this guy long-term, remember....

    What's happened to Josh Winder? He's been getting bashed around the past two appearances. Looks bad. At some point this team is going to start hitting. Once again, against the horrific A's - this time in a hitter's park - the Twins are scoring 2-3 runs per game. Aside from a few glitches in the Matrix, this squad hasn't shown any ability to score runs. We keep hearing the same excuses: "The (insert other guy's name here) pitched great", and "offense is down all over the league". As for the first excuse, it's pretty suspicious that guys with lifetime 4.50 and 5.36 ERAs just happen to be pitching the games of their lives against the Twins 4 nights a week. And as for the second excuse, bah humbug. Frankly I'd be thrilled to see the Twins lose 12-9 one of these days. Bats needed to wake up 2 weeks ago, and it's pretty clear that arms like Bundy, Winder, and Archer won't be carrying this team much longer.

    Yeah, huge bummer. Another reminder that even the most highly touted prospects aren't sure things. It's May 16th and Trevor Larnach and Alex Kirilloff have combined for just 100 ABs due to injury - and even when healthy, have amassed a total of ZERO home runs. I know that fan bias makes it almost impossible to consider that neither of these guys will work out. But if you were a Pirates or Mariners fan, you probably wouldn't be too convinced that either of them have an All-Star career in their future. Okay, okay, Larnach's had a nice start aside from injury but the point is that a couple of years ago you'd have thought we had Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb waiting in the wings. Kirilloff's looking more and more like an answer to "Forgotten Twins Trivia". Doesn't take long to get on that list, either. Remember Fernando Romero and Stephen Gonzalves?

    I was so excited when Dozier hit that ball that I jumped and accidentally hit the 'power' button on the remote. I had a couple family members watching with me, they'd kind of gathered as the Twins' momentum was gaining in the 9th. Everyone watching at my house just saw Dozier launch a fly ball. We had to wait about 1-2 minutes for the smart TV to power back up, and for me to scroll through all the digital channels to get the result. Also thought that Blyleven really butchered the call: "You didn't make the All-Star team, but.....you just helped beat the Detroit Tigers". Dick then rescued the moment with "The most electric moment at Target Field in years!" which was great.

    We've seen this movie before: Twins don't hit, lose ballgame. Bieber just another great pitcher who this team can't touch I guess. Wonder what they're going to do in the playoffs against good teams' 1-2-3 starters in the first round? So Buxton sits 3x a week now even if he's healthy? Nice to see Smeltzer step up.

    Yeah, I see a worse version of Fernando Rodney when he was in a Twins uniform. Getting into all kinds of trouble every time, escaping just enough to keep his roster spot. Maybe someone on the Twins staff can fix this guy, but if nothing changes I can't see him lasting the season on this team. At this point it looks like the Rogers trade will be judged based on how Paddack does in 2024.

    I think it's complete smoke-and-mirrors to be honest. He's had a few good outings but I don't think the guy can be trusted, I'm more inclined to believe he'll regress and be a guy who's ERA hovers around 5+ or so. Hope I'm wrong, just never had a great feeling about him and I think calling him a "stud" is a perfect example of blind homerism.

    One could almost feel that grand slam coming with everything leading up to the Lewis at bat. Was that the first legendary moment in a storybook career? Like many of you I have no idea what the Twins are going to do with Lewis when Correa comes back....if a correct guess would win you $100 bucks, what would you say? Down to St Paul? I really think the kid needs to play 6 games per week at this point.... Correa had that big PR moment a couple weeks ago where he said he was open to staying with the Twins long-term. Wonder what he's thinking now? Troublesome to see the Twins go up 11-2 and then give up 6 unanswered runs. Jax seems to have improved a bit, but I think it's too early to feel confident about his abilities. And that goes for many members of this bullpen. Lost in the box score were homers from both Buxton and Polanco. Twins are a decent team when those two guys are "on".

    I didn't say Donaldson was a horrible player. But I do think he's running out of gas. The Twins paid for a guy who was going to average 36 HRs and 100 RBI over the course of four years. Alas, Covid hit at the worst possible time and all of those plans went awry. He might not be done as a major leaguer, but I think jettisoning themselves of Donaldson was a good move. I think losing IKF in the deal hurt this team the most, frankly.

    Exactly. The real measuring stick for this trade is Donaldson and frankly he looks done - maybe he'll hit 23 HRs and bat .240 this year. Certainly wasn't worth half of what he was being paid. Sanchez is a backup catcher at this point in his career and ideally the Twins roll him out there once or twice a week. As others have said he shouldn't be DH'ing and hopefully the Twins will end that experiment pronto once they get some bats back. As for Urshela, I think the guy should be considered the 26th man on this team and his bat should only see the light of day once a week at most. He's been a huge disappointment. Whether they perform or not though, the trade seems to be worth it. The Twins escaped from that albatross of a contract they gave Donaldson and that should be applauded.

    Woof. I don't know about you all, but my feelings about this team have really changed after this series. I'm not sure they're even a .500 team let alone a playoff team. Twins were just flogged and dispatched with ease by a good - not great - Astros team. Twins looked very overmatched and almost from the get-go had zero chance to stay in a ballgame. Even if the Astros are hot and the Twins are dealing with injuries, this is still an MLB ballgame and we should expect it to look like one. Instead the Twins looked like an AAA or AA squad trying to keep up in a Spring Training exhibition match. Buxton played 2/3 of the series, we had Joe Ryan and Josh Winder on the mound for 2/3 of the series. There are no excuses, the Twins just rolled into this series expecting to lose to a better team and that's exactly what happened. Out of the entire 27 innings the Twins were in the game for like 1 of them. Worst looking baseball of the season and it went on for 3 games in a row, at home. The offense is still unable to score more than 3-4 runs a game against a struggling or below-average pitcher, and when they are facing anything resembling quality pitching it's shock if they don't get shut out. You gotta score more runs, boys. They need like 3-4 more guys to start hitting, that's a tall order.

    If I have to watch that guy ground out on a two-hopper to 2nd base one more time, I swear. He's an automatic out right now. He's not getting robbed, he's not hitting lasers that are being caught, he's rolling over and chopping the ball to the infield. I turn the channel when he's up just so I don't have to watch anymore. He's gotta go to St. Paul, should have been there after the A's series.

    Yep. Definitely good to have guys like that around. Keep in mind that those guys sometimes do break out. Both Eduardo Escobar and Ehire Adrianza were seen as utility infield guys by the Twins. Injuries opened up every day spots and both of those guys responded very, very well to every day playing time. Became extremely valuable pieces, not just "depth".

    Hat's off to this article and all the details. My short take: he's nowhere near this good, but we should all be happy he's contributing now. Thank you Danny. The Twins bullpen has exceeded expectations by leaps and bounds so far, but I think they may have to add at least 2 arms at the deadline if they want to seriously contend.

    I don't think a competitor would be interested in parting with any prospects to acquire Sano at the deadline. And that goes double for any team that's out of the playoff picture. He's a Twin until he's either outrighted/released mid-year or just let go at the end of the season. I suppose the humane thing to do would just to be to keep him on the injured list for the entire year and then let him go.

    Great debut for Lewis, great to see HRs from both Bux and Miranda and hat's off to Winder for a well-pitched game. What more can be said about those four guys? Amazing! Unfortunately this team isn't scoring enough. Both runs last night were scored on solo homers, which means that the Twins had 6 additional hits + 4 walks where they couldn't push anything across home plate. All 10 baserunners were stranded out there, not one hit with a runner on base to bring someone in. The weather is warming up and the bats are too. There aren't going to be many more days where you can win games 2-1. This team needs to figure out how to put up crooked numbers. Lost in all the fun was the fact that Pagan nearly blew this game. Loaded the bases with walks and got to a 3-2 count on the last batter before striking him out. We were 1 pitch away from having a very different discussion this morning as we'd be talking about the team's 3rd straight loss. This team needs a closer.

    Correa wasn't hit by a pitch. He swung at the ball and hit it off his knuckles, the ball rolled into play. No HBP - it was a 1-3 groundout. It was a terrible swing. If he'd have kept the bat on his shoulder and just stood there, he wouldn't have been hit. He did it to himself.

    Nope, no timetable yet. If I had to guess I don't think we'll see him until the 4th of July at the earliest.

    Maybe he's a Denard Span or Jacque Jones type of hitter? Hit 12-18 homers per year, hit .286, play solid defense in the outfield and provide a spark at the top of the lineup? Both of those guys were huge parts of successful Twins teams, valuable players and very successful major leaguers.

    Yeesh - a really terrible 2nd half of that series against Baltimore. What started as a fun road trip now has the Twins sick and broken. Bad starting pitching, bad bullpen, hitters grounding into double-plays left and right, and giving away winnable games. With the way Baltimore was playing you have to take 3-of-4 there. Just have to. I think we have to get used to the idea that Correa's gone until July, it's gonna be a helluva gauntlet to run while he's out. The competition is getting much tougher and someone besides Buxton is going to have to step it up on offense. Kepler's really starting to do that, I think it's time Polanco chips in, he's carried this team for weeks in the past when he gets hot. Sure hope this is the beginning of the Royce Lewis era because otherwise the next couple weeks might not be too fun. PS - Correa, what in the heck was he doing swinging at that ball? Took two terrible swings on the first two pitches low, and then swing at this pitch right at his face? He sure wasn't helping himself on that AB.

    I don't blame Rocco for thinking he could get away with it again, especially since Bundy overall has been pretty good this year. But I think after last night, that experiment is over and moving forward nobody's going to find any more "moral victories" resulting from Bundy getting shelled in the first couple innings.

    Tell that to the Cincinnati Reds, who are 3-21. They might be wondering about where those 50 wins are going to come from right about now. Speaking of sad, non-Twins related stuff: Nelson Cruz is hitting .143 so far this year with 2 HRs. He's 2 for his last 38 and hasn't had a multiple-hit game in almost a month. This has to be his last year, right?
