  1. I hate the freakin' DH. Dump it completely. Replace it in both leagues with the FREE HITTER. Pitchers bat, and a team gets one free pinch hit at bat per game (announced as the Free Hitter). The player who was pinch hit for stays in the lineup, and the free hitter returns to the bench to possibly be used in the game later.
  2. I wanted Wilson Ramos back. The Mets signed Willy for 2 years, $19 mil guaranteed with performance bonuses and a fair option on a 3rd year. Stoopid Mets . . . just kidding. I think they're getting a good deal.
  3. So? It was Super Bowl XI against the Raiders. It was ugly. So ugly, one of the guys at our Super Bowl Victory (sic) Party throws a shoe at the TV, knocking it over, out and dead. Saved us the final misery. I knew right there I couldn't take any more, so that ended my football fandom. Though I did enjoy the Daunte Culpepper era because a lineman sized quarterback is fun.
  4. I thought Joe Kapp, Bill Brown, Alan Page, Carl Eller would find a way to beat the Chiefs in that Super Bowl. I liked some of the Chiefs players except Dawson. But Hank Stram . . . I always hoped a sideline play would crash in to him so hard he swallowed his clipboard.
  5. Looks like the current offer to Machado by the White Sox is 7 years $175M = $25M/yr. Isn't this what Mauer was making? And Machado is only 26, making the back end of the deal less likely to be a burden. I wish I didn't dislike his poor on-field antics so much.
  6. The Jeff Ames signing is interesting. Kind of a replacement for Curtiss. A 2011 1st round draft pick from Tampa Bay, so maybe Rocco knows this kid and his potential (yeah I know he's 27, but he's a lot younger than me so he's a kid). If they can get his walk rate down, might be useful. Also, thinking about the starting rotation. I have to admit I like Berrios, Gibson, Pineda, Odorizzi and Mejia. I'm also thinking Trevor May for crunch time/closer. Rogers, Reed, Hildenberger, Parker & Moya and a long reliever/spot starter TBD. Maybe they sign Keuchel and all our heads explode. C'mon spring training.
  7. Lets just hope and pray the real justice is served, whatever that may be.
  8. If he can keep the ball in the park, he should be effective. I like that he reduced his walk rate significantly moving from the minors to MLB without reducing his K rate. More meat for the pen . . . yeah baby.
  9. Hmmm ... the "most viewed articles" has zero comments. "Yeah, I don't really like talking about my flair".
  10. Oh my head, a Lunch with Casey sighting. I went to Lake Harriet Elementary (which is now gone and condos live there) and would go home for lunch every day where my Grandma would feed me lunch while I watched Casey and Roundhouse. Thanks for the flashback. From New Hampshire, Merry Christmas Doc and everyone. Go Twins.
  11. This isn't a bad idea considering the expectations are shrinking for how many innings a starter is going to pitch each game. 40 starts at 5 innings per start is 200 innings; kind of the bench mark for work load. It's easier to find 4 good arms than 5.
  12. Buck is a world class athlete. Last year was a disaster. I'd just let him play. Hire Devon White to teach him how to navigate outfield walls without sacrificing his aggressiveness. Stick him at the bottom of the order and leave him alone. I think that just staying healthy, putting in the work and playing everyday will take care of itself.
  13. In reply to the article picture: Secret photo captures Jonathan Schoop working on the Eddie Gaedel model of the tiniest strike zone in baseball to increase his walks this coming year. You read it here first.
  14. We might end up leading the league in solo homers and strikeouts. Yikes. When did Dave Kingman become the poster child of MLB offense?
  15. We will find John Sickels. We will read John Sickels. And we will be the better for it.
  16. <<I get that Austudillo is a fun guy to have around. So was Mickey Hatcher. Coincidence that we won a World Series AFTER Hatcher left?>> Hatcher played 12 years, and hit very well in the post season for the '88 Dodgers, batting over .300 with 2 world series homers. Those early/mid '80's Twins teams had bigger problems than Mickey Hatcher who played his posterior off every game. Besides, anyone who runs Tony Lasorda'a pants up a flag pole as a prank is aces to me.
  17. Byron Buxton: Bunting for doubles. Heck, he probable reaches first before anybody even touches the ball. I don't recall seeing anybody as fast as Byron; maybe Rickey Henderson.
  18. << I look forward to seeing this club become Rocco's Modern Baseball Team. >> Hmmm. If Rocco is Rocco, I wonder who are Heff, Filburt and Spunky? We can change Target Field to O-Town Park. Watch out for Mr. Bighead.
  19. I couldn't believe how emotional I got when Joe came out in the catching gear. When he squatted behind the plate to take that pitch, it was like a reminder of the years we missed with him as our catcher. Yeah, Joe at 1B was good and cool, but he was so awesome as a catcher. Makes you wonder how Pudge, Fisk, & Boone endured so long wearing the tools of ignorance. I have to admit, I want him to come back next year, even if he's a platoon/role player. Go Joe.
  20. I'm starting to like guys who don't strikeout very much. It's much more interesting baseball. If you want to admire long drives disappearing into the sunset, go to the driving range and launch a few. But I think its more fun aiming for the markers and obstacles, not to mention the moving target of the ball retrieval guy, hehe. The triple is the most exciting hit; everybody is moving around somewhere. Move some fences back, deaden the ball a little bit, bring more excitement to the game. Arraez and Astudillo. maybe we just need more guys whose last name begins with "A"?
  21. And Palka as LH DH, Dereck Rodriguez starting (leading the Giants with 2.8WAR) and Shaggy in the pen. Hmmmm.
  22. Kohl Stewart might become someone like Mike Torrrez in the 70's and 80's. Pitched from the middle of the rotation somewhere, made all his starts, ate innings, and generally gave his team a chance to win. Won a ring with the '77 Yankees (the Mr. October series against the Dodgers), winning 2 games. Won 20 games once. Had a couple of pretty rough seasons. Guys like this help solidify a starting rotation.
