SD trades prospects, they don't trade FOR prospects. Also, the Twins weren't able to do anything to fill offensive holes this offseason, I don't see them trading more than two MLB-ready bats. I mentioned it in another thread, but if this thing is real, my guess is it's Vazquez and Duran. Duran is a really good reliever, but the Twins have to be a bit frustrated that they can ONLY use him in the 9th, even when using Jax in the 9th is preferable. -
Anybody but the Eagles. I know no one likes KC, but seems like just two years ago every one did. So I'm damn well not throwing away decades of despising Philly to flash-in-the-pan hate KC more.

It's not about the stats, it's about the improvisation. And not just to the prescribed audibles and checked downs. Some of these elite guys do improvisation with their legs, some of them do it with the play calls and their arms. We can't 'know' but I'm quite confident Stafford could turn off his headset and run the offense and be productive. And maybe it's not all about the QB, but partly about the team, because Shanahan wouldn't want an improvisational QB even if Purdy could be one. Purdy does exactly what Shanahan wants him to do; it's his game plan or you're walking home. Could be the same with Williams, he did look like he went off script a lot, but it's the Bears, I'm not sure there actually was a script.

Coming from Shanahan's system, I'm guessing Slowik is the type of coach who wants to feature the run game and requires the QB to fun his scheme exactly as he draws up. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but if I'm not, that sounds more like Goff than Mayfield who's way more of an off-script gunslinger.

Seems pretty surprising that the Texans are firing Bobby Slowik. He was supposed to be getting HC offers this year. I know Houston's offense took a step back, but it's still better than people expected it to be before Slowik took over. I wonder if something else is going on there, this was really late to fire a coordinator. Also, I wonder if Slowik will find his way over to Detroit.

Right. It was a prefect pick. That team is a mess, he'll probably be there just long enough to clean everything up. Seems like a situation where he'll point the club in the right direction, maybe not get them quite to the top, but close enough where everyone will talk about the legacy he left behind. Or at least, I'm guessing that's the script Brady and company are currently writing.

Good stuff! Funny how now two OCs have gotten jobs because they worked miracles with Baker Mayfield. Like wow, the guy picked at 1.01 can actually play football?!? Who would have figured! It must be the genius OCs who should immediately become head coaches!

I like the new dysfunctional dynamic that's going on in Tennessee. Where the assistant GM somehow got the ear of the owner, got the GM fired, then got himself promoted OVER the GM position. The Titans are absolutely going to bungle the #1 pick.

Yeah, he's a legacy coach (Schottenheimer), has been coaching in the league since !!!1997!!! and has never gotten a serious look before. There's a reason.

I will say that if news breaks that the Vikings tagged him, there better be follow up news that they have a trade in place within the hour. They can't sweat this out for weeks or months. I don't want the Vikings to miss out on early free agency because they're unsure how much cap space they'll have.

Unless they're making a complete 180, SD isn't trading for minor leaguers. Even with the haul of players they got for Soto last year, four of them were already at the MLB level and the fifth made his debut last year (after immediately being traded FOR Cease). My bet: SD is asking for Vazquez and Duran. Right now the teams are haggling over another piece for MN vs salary relief.

I don't think they can take that gamble. He's probably the top free agent QB available, but unlike most years, it appears there will be others who actually can start. Wilson for sure, plus Rodgers, Cousins and Carr most likely. What do those guys get? 20M max on a 1-2 year deal? So does a team pay Darnold 41M instead of picking one of those guys for half the price? They'd have to view Darnold as a long term answer or a short term championship run answer, and I'm not sure any team would. I think the Vikings went from lotto ticket to parking ticket real fast with him.

Did they fire the GM because coaches told them they didn't want to work with him? Or do they have someone specific in mind? The Jags wouldn't be talking to Belichick would they?

I'd rather let the young starters pitch. But I'd also not like to roster any of the trade targets listed. So I guess if that's what he's worth, I keep him.

I agree that Hunter is more likely than Mauer. Hunter does still seem invested in the game. And frankly, he'd be a better choice. Mauer is the local hero, but he's staid, quiet and prefers to keep his insights to himself. Or at least, that was how he was as a player. I understand that this appointment may be more of a figurehead status, however, this role could still lead to league-wide exposure and possible talent recruitment; the outgoing and very connected Torii Hunter seems to be a better choice. And not that I think this person will have the pull, but if you had to choose between Mauer or Hunter into talking the majority owner into opening up the wallet for free agents, Hunter seems to be the hands-down better choice for that.

I'm not as adamantly against the steroid users as I used to. I probably still don't put them in, but I also don't care if they do get in. But at this point they all have to stay out. Most have aged off the ballot, so it seems kind of BS that the back end guys would end up benefitting. I mean really, Pettite gets in and Bonds and Clemens don't? That looks shadier than none of them getting in. Sometime after they're all off the ballot, then it's time to have a special referendum to reconsider. Not the regular voters but a committee like they do with the special eras.

It's not about being poor nor about disposable income. But the small town fans tend to be more prudent with their money. Back in the day they paid a cable bill and channel surfed until they found the Twins as it was already included with their plans, but this is different; going out of their way to pay for a streamer that they will ONLY use to watch the Twins. And it costs more than the streamers they already pay for and watch a half dozen shows on. I also don't know how you fix it AND keep the same cost expectations as the rest of the league. This is going to be a bigger issue for the Twins than most clubs. I'm not trying to generalize people, but the more fans you have that look like this: The more fans you are going to have that are watching their budget. And the Twins have more fans like this than probably any other team.

There's nobody in Hallock MN that will think about the pricing that way. Particularly if they're not watching every game, but maybe watching once a week. And many of them will watch once a week because they do have something else to do; as mentioned earlier, Netflix, Amazon and Hulu are still much cheaper. The Twins didn't build their heyday era fan bases on diehards, they built them on casual fans. Rural fans are more cost conscious than their urban counterparts, and they're not going to snag many of the rural casual fans.

Yeah, Minnesota isn't a small market, but the market is disproportionately rural, especially when factoring in the Dakotas and Iowa. These areas tend to have significantly lower wages and probably more importantly, lower cost of living expenses than markets on the coasts. I'd guess the Twins market will have a similarly disproportionate percentage of their fanbase that would balk at prices those on the coasts wouldn't think twice about.

Rabbit hole conspiracy alert! I was thinking that it's kind of odd that the Raiders haven't reached out to Mike McCarthy. They've interviewed top coordinators Ben Johnson, Aaron Glen and Todd Monkin, but otherwise it seems they've focused on former head coaches, interviewing Steve Spagnolo, Robert Saleh, Pete Carroll, Vance Joseph, and Ron Rivera. Reports also said they have at least talked to Bill Belichick and didn't interview Mike Vrabel only because he already told Tom Brady he was going back to New England. So why not McCarthy? He seems like a pretty good fit considering all of the experienced coaches they're looking at. Conspiracy theory: Tom Brady already has Aaron Rodgers lined up as the LV QB in 2025 and Rodgers and McCarthy didn't get along at the end of their time in Green Bay.

Is it possible that every player on OSU's offense is better than the counterpart offensive player on ND's offense? I think they are.
