I actually think Yunior Severino has a shot to do something this year. He was DFA'd but they brought him back. No one likes the strikeouts, but the Twins may have over-corrected in 2024 in trying to cut them back because the offense had absolutely not threat to it. With Matt Wallner and his similar offensive profile being perhaps the most reliable hitter for the team the last two seasons, I could see them turning to Severino when the the bats predictably go cold.- 43 replies

Rizzo, Bader and Vazquez. Perfect. I'm sure the Twins will win a lot of 1-0 games next year. Following the game threads, I can confidently say that while a defensive miscue irritates the fan base, nothing riles up the board more than continually failing to drive in runners in scoring position. Everyone wants the glove only player in February, but come May, Twins nation is ready to run Andrelton Simmons out the door. I seriously don't understand how the fans don't remember this. It basically happens every single season.

Jose Miranda had reverse splits last season; his OPS vs righties was .856. Why would we be looking for a left handed platoon partner? I mean, I get not trusting him, but what I don't get is trusting him less than bottom barrel free agents and vets on their last legs who he outperformed last year. Not criticizing the article, criticizing that there's a need for one because this team keeps going back to the same scrap heap every single season.

I think you over-estimate the stock today's voters would put into post season awards. But everyone forgets that Sandy Koufax was only 'Sandy Koufax' for six seasons. His first six seasons were extremely unremarkable.

Coulombe, Bader and anyone else there is left to sign won't increase subscriptions. I think Coulombe might be a sneaky good deal, but overall, the casual fan isn't happy, and signing a guy who can't hit in Bader is making them less happy. I'd guess it's more of a case of the Pohlad's saying, 'we're out, do what you want Derek, it no longer matters to us'. -
Well I guess free agency is prior to the draft so as long as he's there for that. But considering he keeps knocking that part of the job out of the park, I'm guessing you're going to have to live with his bad drafts for at least another year.

Yeah, with new ownership on the horizon, Falvey and Baldelli will be looking over their shoulders. They almost certainly will be going with vets every chance they get because if the vets fail, it seems there's this weird built in implication that it's the player's fault for not performing. See I tried, they failed, not me! With prospects, it's always the organization's fault. They're busts, they were poorly developed, they were rushed. It always falls on the guys in charge. This will be a season to deflect blame. I don't like it, but I understand self preservation and human nature.

Dodgers, Rangers, Astros, Braves, Dodgers, Nationals, Red Sox, Astros, Cubs, Royals, Giants, Red Sox, Giants, Cardinals, Giants, Yankees, Phillies, Red Sox, Cardinals, White Sox, Red Sox, Marlins. Those are the last 23 WS winners. Every one of them spent in the top half of the league when they won and I would guess that's the case going back at least into the 1980s. I don't understand the 'how they were built argument'. Sure, some of those teams had lots of home grown talent, but what does that matter? Every one of them were top half of the league in spending, without exception. If you won't/can't/don't spend in the upper half, you're not winning a championship.

Yeah, if I was a team like NE, I'd be interested. I'd just cut Watson before he even buys a plane ticket to Boston. Only issue with a team like NE is, that Garrett might be a bit old for their rebuild window. Not that NFL coaches actually think that way. They all think they can win every year.

10M doesn't typically get you good baseball players anymore. I wouldn't have spent it just to spend it. I'm fine with the reliever though. He looks like a worthy addition.

I wouldn't. Watson's salary would probably stop the team from spending on the IOL.

I don't think Hunter did make the transition very well at all. He still got sacks, but he couldn't drop back into coverage. It's literally why they got rid of him and signed Greenard and Van Ginkel, whom the rest of the league had previously thought of as a lesser talents. And it is the reason why I'd be weary of Garrett.

Because Castro is no longer the Buxton replacement/4th outfielder, so instead he'll regularly be manning whatever infield position they stick him at this year, which will be a road block Keaschell has between him and getting called up.

This is just obstinate. Willfully and stubbornly. The Twins ills are with the offense. I can only assume you haven't watched or listened to a game in the last two years, because this is very, very clear. So yes, they 100% should be prioritizing fixing the offense. This only hurts that effort.

You need to stop pretending those who think Bader is not a good baseball player don't also want that.

But Bader can't hit, so it's the same difference. Except with Lee and Julien, there is a possibility that they actually will hit. Or Keaschall or E-Rod or Martin or which ever of the cheap, optionable internal guys they want to try.

Screw the defense. Every single year this team fails when they have runners in scoring position. EVERY SINGLE YEAR. And it's because they keep giving meaningful at bats to Baders and Margots and Taylors and Gallos and Vazquezs and Simmonss. They can't keep signing these glove only guys and think things will change. Willie Castro not being able to get to one extra flyball a week pales in comparison to this team having a runner on 2B followed by the next guy at bat striking out then the next one meekly grounding out to end the inning every single game. It's unwatchable baseball. If they can't afford to hire the hitters who will stop doing this, they need to start rostering the guys who they don't know yet if they can't do this.

Making the playoffs and having a legit shot at winning a championship are NOT the same thing. As evidenced by the teams that continually win the championship. I don't care about making a token playoff appearance. I want my team to be able to put together a squad that has a more than fair chance at winning it all.

Parity among the top spenders. The mid level and bottom spenders are not part of that parity though.

Not that I wanted to, but I'd have rather signed a DH. JD Martinez and Justin Turner may be cooked, but at least a guy like that MIGHT solve that yearly problem of never getting hits with guys on base.

I guess I didn't understand what the panelists were talking about when they said the league had parity. The Royals and Cardinals are the only small and mid market teams to win a World Series in the last two decades and the Cardinals never spent like they were a mid market team and the Royals were 13th in the league in payroll the year they won. Has a team in the bottom half of payroll actually won the World Series since the collusion era? If so, it's the exception, not the rule. I don't think there's parity in this league in any sense of the word.
