    Is it stable though? These extreme payroll disparities suggest contraction will need to be on the table within the decade. There's no way a healthy league can't have 300M payroll teams and 70M payroll teams.

    Baldelli does not manage by computers. He's more of an old-school gut-manager than Sparky Anderson and Earl Weaver. His gut just isn't very good.

    I'm sad to see that I'll never be able to retire, but I am enjoying watching the people who are mentally incapable of ever admitting they were wrong realize that they can't complain about these moronic tariffs, so the only way they can now save face is by saying, 'Money and the economy aren't everything! Don't you all feel ashamed that this is all you care about?!?!'

    I am mortified. Didn't everyone get the memo that we are not to say these kinds of things out loud?!?!? What god are you trying to tempt into cursing Buxton and Twins fans this time?

    It sounds like the Twins abundance of debt is a Twins-specific issue, likely due to ownership dumping their real estate debts on Minnesota Twins LLC. So the Orioles did not have that baggage. Also, it's the East Coast. Despite it being a 'small' market for the East Coast, that market still has old-money prestige and more national exposure simply because they are constantly playing and being discussed with their big market division rivals. But agree with Jocko. Twins current ownership has been really, really bad at marketing and doing TV deals. While most of the league is struggling with these things, the Twins being at the bottom of these metrics should indicate there is financial gain if new owners merely emulate their peers.

    I'm not sure, I don't think they are fully on the same page. As this article points out, there may be some pre-game analytics used to explain the fluctuation of the bottom of the lineup. Likely a collaborative effort. But once decisions have to be made in real time, Baldelli just uses surface level insight to make his calls, which likely is straight out of 1970, but to make it modern, he doubles down on those efforts. If a young left handed hitter is up against a left handed pitcher, he's getting swapped out because that's what the numbers say. But Baldelli doesn't (or won't) take into consideration that his right handed pinch-hit option is Christian Vazquez, not Nelson Cruz. It's all the same to him. It's not 'what does Vazquez do against this pitcher, in this inning, with this many base runners, with this many outs, in this month', that's too complex and detailed. It's just simply, 'right handed hitters are better against left handed pitchers'.

    For all the commotion about Baldelli being too analytical, I don't think he is in the slightest. All of his 'analytical' decisions are basically just old conventional baseball wisdom that is supported only by surface-level stats. Left handers can't hit left handed pitching. Trust veterans over young players. Pinch run your fastest player late in the game, no matter the score, number of outs or which hitter is standing on 1B. There's no method here, he just does to the extreme what managers have been doing (often incorrectly) for a hundred years.

    Still need more data points as they've only faced one left handed starter and it played out as expected; all right handed hitters, none of whom could get a hit off of future Hall of Famer Martin Perez. Also still TBD on how valuable Baldelli thinks these guys are based on lineup position. He just bizarrely pinch ran for Wallner two days ago. So his leadoff hitter, the guy he's supposed to trust most to take quality at bats and get on base.

    The beginning of the first episode would hit harder if you watch the prior seasons of Daredevil, but as planned by Marvel/Disney, no, they are absolutely not required viewing. Interesting about Reacher. I've never read the books or seen the movies or TV show. I knew it was about a former military guy beating the tar out of people so I always figured the exposition you are hinting at would have been tilted emphatically the other direction. Good to know. Severance is a lot of fun. Haven't watched Wheel of Time.

    WAR adjustments are irrational. It's virtually impossible to get a bWAR over 7.0 at 1st base these days. Mark McGwire did it once, in 1998, Frank Thomas also only once. Freddie Freeman: never. It's a dumb stat that over-emphasizes defense and makes the non-up-the-middle positions nearly meaningless. Bryce Harper played 145 games last year and had a bWAR of only 4.8 despite a .898 OPS. I'd be concerned about his year-to-year offensive production as that has had some concerning lows, but he just turned 26, I'm sure he'll provide the same level of defense for the better part of the next decade. Might not be good defense, but it's obviously acceptable if the bat plays. 37M per year for the best hitters in the game is not a high price in this age of baseball.

    Martin Perez has been the only lefty starter they've faced. Like the Twins, I think most clubs have moved away from the idea that you HAVE to feature a lefty prominently in your rotation. And if it's less important than they used to think it was, it then makes it seem quite odd how religiously the Twins still adhere to platooning.

    Did the Twins slip an air-tag in his back pocket to make sure he didn't get lost? If so, it obviously didn't work.

    I don't want a TE, but if BPA is a WR, I wouldn't be opposed. I don't think a WR3 does much with what will basically be a rookie QB, but I still don't trust Addison to both stay out of trouble and keep from complaining his way out of town, so if one of the good WRs is there, it could be an interesting choice. I don't think I like Matthew Golden though, so not him. I'm all aboard the BPA train, and while IOL still seems like a 'needs help' position there should be good options available, so if it is IOC, I wouldn't complain. It's too early, but I'm going to predict the Vikings take Jihaad Campbell. 1st, because I think the Vikings will take the BPA and someone is going to slide, and 2nd because interior LBs seem to have become the RBs of the defense; everyone is focused on the edge rushers. I'll predict Campbell is that guy who slides. I'll likely change my mind and delete this post later!

Those are the two positions that just cannot play through lower body injuries. Not their fault, but it's the nature of their positions. Samuel sounds like it's neck/shoulder issue? If it's one of those degenerative neck things we see once in awhile, don't sign him. If it's shoulder, that's fine.

    I don't get this one. Jax is supposed to be the better reliever, as seen last year. I would have rather him vs the top of the order the following inning. Plenty to criticize Baldelli for, but this is just another example of inventing mud to throw. I don't get it, there's enough to complain about already.

    I really want a sale, but everyone here is really underestimating the chances of new owners being just as bad or worse. It absolutely could be Marlins/Pirates/A's worse. I'm more than happy to take that chance, but it is a real and significant possibility, yet too many think it will be time for a parade, despite not even knowing who these hypothetical billionaires even are.

    I think you lose a lot of games if that's priority #1. This team loses because the bats all go cold, particularly when there are runners on, and it's been that way for a long time. As bad as the defense can get, that's rarely the reason they lose games.

    That's probably a tough thing to coach out of a player in only two months of spring training, so I'm not writing off the new hitting coach just yet. I'm not giving him a pass though either.

    Swinging at and missing pitches has to be significantly harder to correct than swinging at the wrong pitches. And Miranda is far from alone in this issue. I'm really starting to believe the problem is as much systematic as it is individual.
